Jerry N. Hayes

Jerry Norris Hayes was the fourth of five children, born on October 13, 1953 in Clifton Forge, VA to the late Alexander & Anna Belle Hayes. He departed this life on July 9, 2023. Jerry was educated through the Alleghany County Public Schools of the lower Shenandoah Valley in Low Moor, VA. He graduated from Alleghany County High School in 1970. Upon graduation, he enlisted in The United States Air Force. He was later honorably discharged. During the summer of 1990, Jerry met the love of his life, Cynthia Lee. Soon after, Jerry, Cynthia and her 4 children became a beautifully blended family. He enjoyed taking the family to festivals, parks, and the state fair. He adored his bonus children because they all knew the Lord and respected him as their "dad." Jerry and Cynthia were united in Holy Matrimony on May 18, 2015. He had a special love for his mother-in-law and one of his bonus grandsons, Darius, who he spent a lot of time with. After his time with the military, Jerry was employed through Marriott International, INC. His jobsite was Marriott Hotel in Hunt Valley, MD where he worked until he landed a job with the Baltimore County Public School System. He retired in July of 2016 after working there for over 30 years. Jerry saw the difference within his immediate family via them knowing the Lord, and decided to seek the Lord for a new way of life for himself. He visited many churches, but was reintroduced to Christ at Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Faith Church where he faithfully attended. Jerry was the "Life of the Party." Upon his retirement, he would spend time on the stoop listening to music with his best friends, Byrd and Stanley. He was a people person and made friends everywhere he went because of his warm and infectious smile. Jerry was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. He loved his football team. Jerry leaves to cherish his memories, devoted wife, Cynthia; 4 bonus children, Derrick, Charles, Lynette and Marcus Lee (Nema); 15 bonus grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ted Hayes (Mable) of VA and Pastor Carl Hayes (Elsie) of CA; sister, Shirell Hayes of CA; mother-in-law, Shirley Gaskins; best friends, David Byrd and Stanley Bruno; nieces, nephews, church family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Hayes.
