Jennie M. Green

Jennie Mae Green was born the third of five children, of Lloyd Marshall Green and Daisy Washington Green on December 24, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was called to spend eternity with our Lord and Savior on the afternoon of Friday, July 22, 2005.Jennie began her Christian service at Waters A.M.E. Church and she was a faithful member of Christ Edmondson United Methodist Church. For over twenty-five years, she was member of Bethel A.M.E. Church. She used her gift of song with the choirs at each church.Jennie received her formal education in the Baltimore public schools and was a graduate of Dunbar High School in 1943. She was in the first graduating class of Nurse Assistants and Operating Technicians at Lutheran Hospital. She earned a certificate in Early Childhood Education from Baltimore Community College. She was an avid reader of books on a variety of themes and enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles.Jennie was a loving wife to Larkin Green and later James Green (she never had to change her monogram). From these unions were born five children. Jennie was first and foremost a devoted homemaker who was committed to the well-being and care of her home and family.Jennie began her work career as telephone operator with New York Bell Atlantic. She worked as a nurse’s assistant and operating technician at Lutheran Hospital. Some of her most rewarding years were spent working as an instructional aide at Guilford Elementary School and Hyman Blumberg Day Care Center. She culminated her working career at the B & O Railroad Museum, where she proudly served as a receptionist, who was faithful to mission of educating the public about the museum’s rich history.Jennie exhibited the characteristics of a “Woman of Great Price” as found in I Peter-3. She exemplified warmth, humility and love. Those who met Jennie were blessed by her kindness, gentleness and sweet spirit. Jennie leaves to cherish her memory: five children, Michael L. Green, Manami J. Brown, Michele T. Green, James Green, Jr. and Darin A. Green, two sons-in-law, Tony Brown and Gordon Frazier; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Y. Green; grandchildren, Dione Mitchell, Naneke Green, Nichelle Rashid, Naima Jamal, Maia Green Tiffany Green, Michael Green, Jr., Ashley Green, Brittney Alston, Tariq Sollers and Gabrielle Green; great-grandchildren, Jared Mitchell, Nadir Enlow, Justin Mitchell, Jalen Mitchell, Jordan Mitchell, Kaylah Rashid and Jeremy Mitchell; nieces, Rosetta Johnson, Sandra Levere, Vivian Sykes, Debra Lynch; nephews, Gino Travis, David Green, Lloyd Green, Jr., Andre Green, Uncle Sammy’s children and a host of other relative and friends.
