Jeanne M. Washington

Jeanne Marie Noble Washington was born January 10, 1935 to the late John Williams Noble and Dorothy Eaden Noble of Lynchburg, Virginia. Jeanne received her formal education at Yoder Elementary School and Dunbar High School of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia. She earned the Bachelor of Science Degree, as a Home Economics and Dietary Science major. Jeanne united in holy matrimony with Spurgeon Banks Washington, Jr., on September 20, 1969 at the Wayland Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Out of their union was born Spurgeon Banks Washington, III. Jeanne was employed as a Dietician at Friendship Hospital of Washington, DC, Lutheran Hospital, Children’s Hospital and Kernan Hospital of Baltimore, Maryland, as well as at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center of Jessup, MD, from which she retired in 2010. She began her extraordinary battle of “beating the bear” of many extraordinary health issues. Jeanne enjoyed life, work, and family, and especially a good argument in which her points of view were never conceded. Upon retirement, Jeanne enjoyed traveling, especially bus trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey, shopping trips to York, Pennsylvania. To Jeanne family was everything— really, it was, to her, the only thing that mattered. Each “child” in the family was extremely special to her, and each might be her “favorite” on any given day. Dania, the first born of her nephews’ children, made Jeanne’s twinkling eyes and her easy smile light the room as she talked of Dania.Once Jason was born: new child soon in first place, until Alexa and Jerrell arrived, all so special because these were her deceased, and ever beloved brother, “Uncle Bro’s”—John Lewis Noble— grands. Jeanne touched many lives ‐ friends, family and co-workers, and they valued that she made each feel special. Jeanne was an attuned listener: anyone who knew Jeanne, whether as Aunt Jeanne, Jeanne or Mrs. Washington, could come to her and talk about anything without fear of judgement. Extremely witty and possessed of a wonderful sense of humor, and a really great conversationalist, she could banter with the best, including her doctors whom she challenged to always find a way to keep her in the fight. On January 30, 2020, at Baltimore’s Sinai Hospital, Jeanne relinquished her “fight with the bear” as the winner: it was simply her time to rest. Those who knew and loved her will mourn but always smile: she had been the model of determination, a great spirit of life. She will always be cherished by her devoted son, Spurgeon Banks Washington, III and by Spurgeon Banks Washington, Jr., of Baltimore, MD; nephews and their families, John Guy Anthony Noble (Valerie) of Houston, Texas; Jay Byron Noble of Baltimore, MD; Dania Antoinette Kirby-Brown of Dallas, Texas; John Jason, Alexa St. Claire, and Jah-rel Lewis Noble of Houston, Texas; John Noble and Joan Noble of Cancun, Mexico: and many of her extended family and friends.
