Jean Elizabeth Jowers

Sometimes, when the good Lord moves contrary to our wishes, we have to cry sometime. Jean Jowers was the fourth child of five children, born to Samuel and Dora Pettigrew on January 21, 1935 in Baltimore, MD. She was educated at Frederick Douglass Senior High School with the class of June, 1954. She knew what she wanted from life and what she had to offer life in return. She was married to Robert James Jowers. From that union, one daughter, Renita Jowers and one son, Kevin Jowers, Sr. were born. One son from a previous marriage, Michael Saunders, Sr. took on the care of his mother following the excellent care by Sis. Lavita Pryor. The wonderful care continued by Michael. Jean Jowers was one who inspired and encouraged others, especially family members and friends. Her living and her talk were to get them to perform their best in everything positive and in everything good towards the challenges of growth and development. She was often heard saying, "Giving our best today is an excellent recipe for a better tomorrow." She was employed as a Nurse at Sinai Hospital. She later worked as a Medical Technician at Greater Baltimore Medical Center before retiring from that assignment. Jean Jowers was a lady of great faith and prayer. She was an active member of Sharon Baptist Church. Some of her service at Sharon Baptist Church included: Choir member, Deaconess Ministry, Church Life Circle and the James L. Moore Birthday Circle. Wherever there was a need in the church or in the community, Sis. Jean Jowers was among the first to volunteer and help wherever and whenever she could. She was also quick-witted. She remained at the ready to respond to every situation with a witty response, usually in a humorous manner. When her death whispered, "Jean Jowers you must leave this earth," Jean's famly and loved ones heard the voice of Christ saying, "Jean Jowers, you are but coming to Me." There is no doubt in our minds relative to where Jean is today. All worry, all sickness and all pain and hurt are all gone. She is with the Master in heaven with the Prince of Peace, where there is no worry or pain, no sickness or heartache. All of those things are gone from her forever. There is nothing left for her but love, joy, contentment and happiness. To God be the glory! Sis. Jean Jowers leaves to mourn her transition: Michael Saunders, son; Janet Johns, twin sister; Kevin Jowers, Jr., grandsons; Brandon Giles Jowers and Michael Saunders, Jr.; Ariel Jowers, granddaughter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
