Jean Elizabeth Claiborne

Jean Elizabeth Claiborne completed her earthly journey on a warm sunny Sunday afternoon,August 16, 2009. Jean Elizabeth Johns was born to Myrtle Jojns,December 2, 1939. At three months old,she was blessed to be raised by her parents Evelyn and William Day. Jean was preceded in death by her daughter Sharnette and a son,Antoine.She was educated in the Richmond Public School system and graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1957. Jean was baptized at First Baptist Church in Washington Park. She later married Joseph Claiborne,Sr. and of that union there were six children. She later joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1993,under the pastorate of A. Lincoln James,Jr.For 21 years,she worked for the VCU and R-CAP Head Start program and retired in June 2005."Peanut" as she was lovingly called by her brothers. She truly enjoyed baseball and all types of sports. She was a generous,kind,loving and thoughtful person,but found great joy and satisfaction in knowing she added a smile to someone's face. She shared a special relationship with her sister that was loving and warm. Jean's tender voice often burst into contagious laughter as she shared funny stories about fishing. One of her many goals in life was to see her children grown and be successful. Her beautiful smile will be remembered by many,even through her ilness. Her love of God was evident in the way she unselfishly gave of her time.Jean leaves to cherish and treasure her beautiful memory,the love of her life,her best friend and loving husband of 51 years,Joseph Claiborne Sr.;children,Joseph B. Claiborne,Jr.(Movita),Cherly C. Davis,Jerry L. Claiborne(Pamela) and William D. Claiborne,Sr.(Sondra,fiance);grandchildren,Joseph B. Claiborne III,,Terry D. Claiborne,Wesley R. Stubbs,DeAndre Liggans,Sharnette Liggans,Chontele Baskerville(Kyron),Ronunda Claiborne,Janae Claiborne and Demetria Corbin.Macus Holloway(Danielle),William Claiborne,Jr.Brandon Claiborne;great-grandchildren,DeAndraya Liggans,Tamira Claiborne,Deondra Liggins,Marcus Hollway,Jr.,Samaria Jackson and Kenya Claiborne;loving sister,Mae Jones;devoted sister-in-law,Marjorie Day;devoted niece,Ada Taylor;other relatives,and two very special friends,Darlene Martin and Phyllis Washington.
