Janice Yvonne Martin

Janice Yvonne Martin was the second child born to William R., Sr. and Mildred Martin in Baltimore, Maryland on August 2, 1949. Janice gained her angel wings and transitioned to be with her mother on July 29, 2017. The family moved to Washington D.C. in the late fifties, where Janice attended Elementary and Junior High Schools. The family later moved to Hyattsville, MD where she graduated from Northwestern High School in 1967. Always blazing her own path, she selected Colorado as her chosen state for college. She studied at the University of Colorado in Boulder and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1972. After working several years in Denver, she returned home to Maryland to attend Morgan State University and earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance in 1974. She continued to strive educationally and received the Juris Doctorate Degree from Potomac School of Law in 1981. After obtaining her law degree she moved to Valdosta, Georgia to work for the Georgia Legal Services Program. After a few years in Valdosta, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia to work for the United Automobile Workers (UAW) Legal Services where she was employed for over 14 years. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 1998. In 2001, she joined the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent in the Atlanta Area. Needing to be close to family, she decided to move back to Maryland were she was employed as a Tax Law Specialist with the IRS in the Washington, D.C. office. While attending the University of Colorado, Janice was selected by Beta Phi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. On May 10, 1969 she was initiated as a Charter Initiate of Zeta Pi chapter of the Sorority. In 1997 Janice was also a Charter Member of the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter in Georgia. Upon her return to Baltimore she became a member of the Baltimore Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter. For over 48 years Janice demonstrated her commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. by serving faithfully in each chapter were she was a member. She loved her Sorority and her Sorority Sisters and they demonstrated their love for her. Janice became an avid runner and was excited to have participated in both the Boston and New York City marathons among others. Having inherited the love of shopping and of jewelry from her mother, there was not a watch, ring, or pendant that she did not like. She also shared her passion for travel with her mother, having traveled to Paris, Amsterdam, Argentina and the Caribbean, with those being some of her most memorable destinations. It was on her bucket list to visit all 50 states and she was well on the way to her goal with just eight states left to visit. Now joining her beloved mother in her recent transition, Janice leaves to cherish her memory: father, William R. Martin, Sr.; brother, William R. Martin, Jr.; nieces Remi Martin, Olivia Martin and Charity Martin; great-nieces Taylor Martin and Camryn Martin; one aunt, Louise Dixon; loving cousins: Ira Ashby, Daria Dixon, Lisa Dixon, Mark Garrett, Lori Garrett, Stephanie L. Hughes and Shelia Hughes; lifelong sister friends: Johnetta Gatlin-Brown, Beverly Culver, Barbara Govan, Pat Guest, Linda Bates Leali, Helen Porter and Imogene Walker; professional colleagues and a host of family, friends and Sorority sisters across the country.
