Janice L. Evans

Janice Lucinda Evans, the daughter of the late Buster and Velma R. Savage was born on October 22, 1940 in Baltimore City, Maryland. She departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Janice was educated in the public schools of Baltimore City, Maryland. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1958. After high school, Janice and several friends formed a social club called “The Sophisticates”. They had social gatherings and gave out baskets during the holidays. The remaining members are friends today. In 1966, Janice moved to Akron, Ohio and married Michael David Harris. They adopted a little boy, Damon Michael Harris in 1971. The marriage lasted seven years. Janie had a long work career. Most of her work experience was in finance. In Ohio, Jan worked in the finance office of Ohio State University. Also, while there, she worked for the Goodyear Tire Company. She moved back to Baltimore and had these work experiences: the finance office of a local bank, and the invoice department of the Buick Car Dealership. Her last work experience was in the export division of Crown Cork and Seal Company. She worked there until she retired because of health issues. Janice was blessed with a second chance at happiness when she married Richard Evans, Jr. in 1988. They were married twenty-two years until he passed away in 2010. Janice was raised in the Baptist Church. She was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown, MD. She was unable to attend during the last few years because of failing health. Janice enjoyed reading, cross word and number puzzles. She loved to play Bingo and was a regular at the Pikesville Community Center until her health failed. After a long illness, she went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, December 13, 2011. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory; her son, Damon Harris; stepdaughter, Naomi (Jackie) Evans; her step-grandson, Terrance Porter; sister, Sylvia Stokes; brothers, Michael Savage (Carolyn Joyce Savage) and Larry Savage (Denise Savage); sister-in-law, Queen Esther Ovid (Clifford Ovid); uncles, Ernest Ward (Helen Ward) and Elwood Ward; niece, Monique Savage; nephews, Derrick Savage, Larry Savage, Jr. and Michael Savage: and a host of other relatives and friends and a special friend and neighbor, Beneta Raffell.
