James E. Tucker

JAMES EDWARD TUCKER was born on August 26, 1949 in Green Bay, Virginia. His parents were the late McKinley and Betty Tucker. One of seven children, James was educated in the Prince Edward County public schools in Virginia. While in Virgina, James was employed by Jenkins Dairy Farms. He later became a construction worker and a very competent cement finisher. Also, while he was in Virginia, in 1968, James married the former Mary Smith. They became the parents of three fine children. James relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1979, and continued his skill as a cement finisher until his retirement in 2009. James is remembered as person who loved his family and friends, and life in general. He had a happy personality and spread his joy to those who were around him. He loved to engage others while telling jokes. Taking a drink "every now and then" kept him lively! He was a huge Orioles fan and he also enjoyed fishing and watching old movies and football on the television screen. He made it clearly known that he did not want to be disturbed while watching the games! He would frequently travel to Virginia to visit his family, and potato salad and bread pudding were among his favorite foods. It is very important to note that James accepted the Lord and joined Simmons Memorial Baptist Church. He did not attend some worship services. While at Sinai Hospital in Hospice Care, James E. Tucker departed this Earthly life on February 9, 2020. James was preceded in death by his brothers William and Charles Tucker and one sister, Dorothy Younger. James shall be remembered with love by his wife of 48 years, Mary Tucker ("Gin"); his children, Wanda Jackson (Jarvis), Barbara Harriston (John) and Robert Tucker, (Juanita); his sisters, Jeane Atkins (Philip); Cynthia Brown; and brother, Herbert Tucker; a special niece, Monique Atkins; four brothers-in-law, Wilbur Smith (Phyllis), Thomas Smith (Louise), Herman Smith (Lucy), James Smith; five sisters-in-law, Sarah Sprague (Henry), Laura Hughes (Earl), Julia Hatcher (Michael), Helen Smith and Josephine Jefferson; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-granchildren; the Tucker, Taylor and Sprague cousins; Levette and many friends.
