James Thomas Lucas

James T. Lucas departed this life on Sunday morning, March 20, 2005, at his home in Baltimore, Maryland. He was 72. James was the son of the late Otha Lucas Sr. and Creddie Anderson Lucas.In 1946, James, who was born and reared in Zebulon, North Carolina, moved to Baltimore, Maryland with his late Uncle, Sidney Lucas and his late brother, Otha Lucas Sr. He spent many years in Baltimore before moving to New Jersey, where he met his bride, Adelphia “Duffy” May Lucas. The two young lovebirds and “fashion-plates” were married in Passaic in 1960. A fun couple, James and Duffy enjoyed traveling and socializing with their family and friends. Their union was blessed with two children, Carly and James, and one son through marriage, Daryl Perry.James was employed for many years at Eastern Corrugated Company in Clifton, NJ. He also was an entrepreneur and an avid chess player. After returning to Baltimore in 1972, he worked at Wagner Brothers Inc. as a machine operator until his retirement. James also enjoyed taxing Baltimore’s young and old passengers around the city to malls, churches and hospitals.He was a member of St. Matthew Church, where he served in the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for the Daily Bread Kitchen, a local outreach program for the homeless. He loved his church and enjoyed attending bible study classes and going to confession. His pastor, Father Joe Muth, described James as a “generous and wise member, who was not afraid to face the struggles in his life.”In his recovery, James enthusiastically shared his testimony and served as a witness to God’s miraculous poser.He is survived by his “spiritual” wife, Adelphia Lucas, of Bloomfield, NJ; one daughter, Caryl Lucas, of Passaic Par, NJ; two sons, James Lucas, of New York, NY; Daryl Perry, and his wife, Yvonne, of Pembrook Pines, FL. And the late Santonia Lucas, of Baltimore, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shawnifha Lucas, Santonio “TJ.” Lucas, Laterra Lucas, Ira Perry; his great grandchildren Shakiara Lucas, Shania Moore, Isaiah and Jordan Perry; three sisters-in-law, Pauline Lucas, of Baltimore, MD; Mintha Marshall, of Passaic, NJ; and Christine Smith, of Clifton, NJ; two special nieces, Ellen Lucas-Robinson and Linda Lucas, a special nephew, Stanley Lucas, a dear cousin, Alice Faye Steele; and a host of nieces and nephews.
