James Thomas Brown

On June 9, 1940 God brought a beautiful baby boy into this world. He knew that this child would one day grow up to love and serve Him. "SONNY," as he was affectionately called by those close to him, received his education in the Baltimore Public Schools. As James grew older, he felt the need of getting closer to God. One Sabbath while attending Berea Temple, he obeyed the call of the Holy Spirit as He beckoned him to come forward to give his heart to Jesus. Soon he was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist Church. James did grow to love the Lord Jesus with all of his heart, his soul and his mind. One of his favorite sayings was: "God is good ALL the time." Throughout the years he faithfully served his Master as a Deacon in Berea Temple. Answering the call to share the message that he loved, James worked fifteen years as a Literature Evangelist. He was an avid reader. He especially enjoyed studying his Sabbath School Lesson. After work and on weekends one would often find him out walking. He enjoyed the fresh air. James loved sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles football team. During his lifetime James worked several jobs at the time he became ill he had been working sixteen years for Gross Country Manor. He was a dedicated and faithful worker who did whatever he could to help anyone that needed his help. James unexpectedly went to sleep in Jesus on March 28, 2005. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Lewis affectionately known as "Papa" and a sister, Gladys. Cherishing his memories will be his four sons, Parrish, Jeron, Jerod, and Jaunjae; grandchildren; his sisters, Delores, Dorothy, and Janet; a very special friend and first cousin, Leah Joy Mackall-Dammons; two aunts, Clara Young and Violet Stoakley; one uncle, James (June) Paran; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Yes, "Sonny" sleeps now. Those hands that God used to be so instrumental in serving others are now laid to rest. He believed and trusted in his God and knew that he had committed his life to Him. The following promise expresses James' dependence on Him: "God never leads His children otherwise than they would choose to be led, if they could see the end from the beginning." Ministry of Healing, page 479. James will be greatly missed. No one can ever take his place. But we sorrow not as those without hope for we know that death is only a sleep that will be broken soon when Jesus comes.
