James T. Brown

JAMES T. BROWN, son of the late Mary E. and James H. Brown, was born on May 19, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland. God called him home to victory on Sunday, October 12, 2003. It was a quick and sudden calling.Brother, Brah or Hop, as he was affectionately called by his friends and family, received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System where he completed an eighth grade education. He later received both a GED and certification as an automotive mechanic. James held many jobs in his lifetime, but what he loved best was operating his own business, “Hop’s Shoe Shine Parlor,” on Laurens Street in the 1940's. He later went on to develop his love of cooking as an employee of te Oriole Cafeteria.During this time he met and fell in love with Lorraine E. Banks and her son John. James and Lorraine were married on his 27th birthday. From this union five children were brought lovingly into this world, JoAnn, Janice, Judy, James A. and Jerry.James’ life has always been covered by God’s Graces. He was baptized as a member of Bethel AME Church on Druid Hill Avenue. His spiritual devotions were continually practiced throughout his life, which he earnestly taught to all of his children and shared with all who knew him.He was a supportive and loyal friend, and children were drawn to his caring and nurturing ways, earning him the name Pop-Pop. In his later years James developed new friendships at the Almost Family Adult Day Care Center. He will sincerely be missed by all of his friends and acquaintances.James enjoyed the simple things in life, which included playing and watching sports, board games, card games, entertaining, singing and listening to music and talk shows and reading his Bible daily.This legacy of a life guided by Christ will be carried on by his children, Janice, Rev. Judy of Staten Island, NY, James A. and Jerry Sr. Brown, JoAnn L. Ball and John G. Banks; three sisters, Vera Henson, Shirley Wall and Barbara Roberts; one mother-in-law Ruby L. Davis; one brother-in-law Ellsworth Roberts; six grandchildren, Eddie D. Reaves, Roy P. Wade, Jasmin Banks, Brittany R. Brown, Jaiva L. Williams and Jerry F. Brown Jr; one great-grandchild Talia Robinson; two daughters-in-law, Eartha Banks and Shelia Brown; one son-in-law Stanley Ball; nieces, nephews, and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.
