James Herman Houston,Sr.,a devoted husband,loving father, and committed friend,James was an exceptional man.His kindheartedness and benevolence were not reserved for family and colleagues.He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor, church member or anyone in need.His warm smile and acts of love inspired everyone he came in contact with. He had a great business acumen that placed him at the top of the field in every task that he endeavored. A leader in business and a caring member of the community,James touched too many lives to number. Excellent,tenacious,extraordinary and,accomplished are a few words that describe him.James set a standard in the Richmond Metropolitan area and beyond that will not be forgotten.He was truly a gifted communicator who distinguished himself through determination and perseverance. His bright smile and powerful voice will forever remain etched in our memories. James was born December 10,1955 to Selma and the late James Ray Houston in Richmond, Virginia. James was baptized at an early age and became a member of New Covenant Apostolic Church. He graduated from John Marshall High School and attended Virginia Commonwealth University. He later entered the United States Marine Corp, where he was honorably discharged. James was a very accomplished car salesman in the Richmond area for over 20 years. In 1999, he became a Mortgage Loan Officer with Aggressive Mortgage, where he served as Branch Manager until his health failed. Throughout both careers, he received countless recognitions and awards for “Top Salesman” and “Top Loan Officer”. On September 19, 1999, he was joined in Holy matrimony to Linette P.Jones. He was the proud father of four children: Makeda Entrice, Rashida Shamel, James Herman and Matthew James. James leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Linette of Chesterfield,VA;two daughters, Makeda Battle (James)of Chesterfield,VA,Rashida Houston of Atlanta, GA; two sons,James Jr. and Matthew of Chesterfield, VA;loving and devoted mother, Missionary Selma Nails of Richmond; one brother,Tyrone Houston (Lealer)of Elm City, NC; one step-brother,Solomon Owens of Richmond,VA;one step-sister, Rev.Linda G. Owens of Richmond, VA; one granddaughter, Ayana Battle; mother-in-law, Barbara Finley both of Chesterfield,VA; father-in-law,James Bacon(Priscilla)of Chester,VA; three sister-in-laws,Angela and Ameia Bacon,and Autumn Finley of Chesterfield,VA;three brother-in-laws,Derrick and Terry Jones of Boydton,VA and Demond Bacon of Chester,VA;and a host of aunts,uncles,nieces,nephews, cousins and friends.
