James E. Elliott

James Edward Elliott was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 9, 1944 to the late Frances Elliott and Charles Dare. He attended Carver Vocational Technical High School, where he majored in tailoring. Upon graduating in 1963, James worked for the University of Maryland Hospital System for several years until he found his niche in the catering business. James worked for various catering business. James worked for various catering companies, including Snyder’s, Cameo and Black-Eyed Susan. While pursing his pursuing his career in catering, James met politicians, professional golfers, tennis pros and many wonderful brides. Those who knew James were well aware of his passion for making the world a better place through food and fellowship. When he was not working, James could be found adding his artistic and culinary flair to family gatherings and parties. In June of 1968, James married Andrea Clara Watkins. James and Andre’s first born was daughter, Shawn. They also had a son, the late Christopher Michael Elliott. James Elliott- brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend- was a man who always saw the glass half full. A most caring and generous person, he coined the phrase, “Everything is just lovely”. But, as much as he enjoyed planning festive social events, nothing made James happier than taking care of his grand and great-grandchildren. In 2010, James was diagnosed with an advanced stage of bladder cancer. James being James, he just continued living his life without a complaint, and doing those things that matter- taking care of his grand and great-grandchildren and throwing a good party or two, even through his cancer treatments. James’ last soiree took place on January 7, 2012, when he and his twin brother, Charles celebrated their 68th birthdays- and yes, “Everything was just lovely”. Just one month and eighteen days later, James succumbed to his illness. James Elliott departed this life on February 25, 2012 at 2:55a.m. He will be sorely missed by: his daughter, Shawn and her partner, William Dowery; his four grandchildren, Christopher, Aneissa, James and Darius; two great-grandchildren, Brookelynn and Deon; two brothers, Charles Elliott and Victor Dare; two sisters, Barbara Dare and Elsie Dare; best friend, Tyrone Wilson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
