James E. McNeill

James Eddie McNeill, the son of the late Elijah McNeill and Maggie Cameron McNeill, was born January 16, 1912 in Erwin, North Carolina. He entered into eternal rest on September 6, 2002 at North Arundel Hospital, Glen Burnie, Maryland, after a short illness. As a youngster, James lived in the Erwin/Dunn area where he became a member of Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion church. He received his education at Harnett County Training School. As a young adult, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland. He worked a t Bethlehem Steel Corporation for nearly thirty years. In 1978, he retired, moved his family to Severna Park, Maryland and joined Silas First Baptist Church in Severna Park, MD where he has been a member for the past twenty years. James was an active and dedicated member of the Baltimore Chapter of Harnett High School Alumni Association until his death. He enjoyed life and took pride in his work. He loved working in his gardener and taking care of his two little dogs, James was a very proud and devoted father. He was also a wonderful, giving friend to all.One son, James Albert McNeill; five brothers, Elijah, Andrew, John Albert, Willie and Joseph McNeill; two sisters Queeno McLean and Lillie Hargrove Davis preceded him in death.James leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Susie Wedington McNeill of Severna Park, MD; three daughters, Joyce McNeill of Severna Park, MD, Catherine Smith (George) of Erwin, NC. and Joan McLean of Willingboro, NJ., five sons, Victor McNeill (Teresa) of Yonkers, NY, David McNeill (Joyce) of Durham, NC., Robert Lee McLean (Pat) of Jacksonville, NC, Calvin Wedington Sr., of Baltimore, MD., and Calvin “Scotty” Wedington, Jr. of Severna Park, MD; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Ruth Rainey of Seattle, WA, Maggie Bell McLean of Lillington, NC., and Alice Blue of Dunn, NC.; three brothers, David McNeill (Lois) of Erwin, NC, Jesse NcNeill (Annie Laura) of Durham, NC,. and Alfred McNeill (Betty) of Greensboro, NC.; three sisters-in-law, Elonora Wedington, Maggie Moyer and Thelma Taylor; three brothers-in-law, John Wedington, Samuel Wedington and Leon Taylor; and a host of nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.For this is a journey that we all must take and each must go alone, It’s all part of the Master’s Plan, a step one the road to home.
