James E. Lewis

James Elmer Lewis, one of eight children of the late James and Clara Lewis, was born on March 29, 1913 in Sandy Springs, Maryland. God in His infinite and divine wisdom saw fit to stretch out His hand and call him to His eternal home. Having answered God’s call at that hour, James departed this life on Thursday, February 24, 2005.James received his formal education in the public schools of Baltimore, Maryland.James was employed with the Crown Cork and Seal Company for 25 years. He then began employment with the Baltimore branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, where he worked until his retirement.James met and married Eloise Green and they had one daughter, Dolores.James Later met and married Esther McCullers on June 19, 1944. They had a wonderful marriage until God saw fit to call Esther home on April 3, 1983.James joined Mt. Pisgah C.M.E. Church during the administration of Rev. John Hammond. James was a lifelong member of his beloved Mt. Pisgah Church, where he worked enthusiastically and tirelessly with every minister that came to Mt. Pisgah including the current minister, Reverend Leverette. James started the first Usher Board, and he worked as a Trustee. You could always spot James in the kitchen working feverishly whenever the occasion required. When anyone asked, James was right there with assistance. He and Esther especially enjoyed creating programs and activities for the children of Mt. Pisgah.James strong belief in God and faith in the teachings of Jess Christ sustained him for 91 years. The family believes that God saw fit to keep James with them for such a long period of time, because he was such a devout and loving Christian.James leaves to mourn his devoted sister, Freda Guidry, and brother, Thomas E. Lewis, two daughters, Dolores and Melinda; two sons, Larry and Dennis; four granddaughters, Joanne, Kamilah, Akllah, Karma, Chineze; five grandsons, Ralph, Donald, Asim, Amir, Ali; one great-granddaughter, Erica, one great-grandson, Elijah; two God-daughters, Kathy and Kear; one brother-in-law, Melvin; one sister-in-law, Shirley, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
