Deacon James Andrew Cousar

Reflection of Life James Andrew Cousar was born on April 17, 1964, to the late Reatha Cousar-Adams and James Gordon. James was born in Queens, New York, and raised in Jersey City New Jersey. He attended Jersey public schools and graduated from Lincoln High School. After graduation, he attended a trade school where he learned plumbing, painting, and carpentry. James also worked as a security guard. He also worked at Newark Airport as a ground crew. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed bowling, building, cleaning his car, and spending time with his family. James was a jack of all trades when he put his heart and, mind to it, determined to do his best. He was very helpful and giving. James never had a problem lending a hand. Many times he would find himself helping with flooring, painting, or fixing something. He loved his craft and took pride in what he did. He also took pride in how his church floors looked. On November 28, 1998, James married his high school sweetheart and best friend Renee Johnson. They created a family which grew bigger over time and they were married for 26 years. James has been in church all his life, at the early age of 5, James gave his life to Christ at Mount Olive Baptist Church where he was a dedicated choir member and a faithful servant of God; then later on he became a member of “The Israel House of Prayer for all People” where he was a devoted Israelite. In 2000, James relocated his family to Richmond Virginia. There he started working for Service Master, cleaning offices until he landed a job at Walmart in 2001. James became a member of United House of Prayer for All People” in 2003 where he remained a devoted member and Deacon. James was loved by many, especially his family. He made friends wherever he went. He was a hustler who knew how to make his money through work, side jobs, and more. He was always a provider and family man. The New York Giants was his favorite team, and celebrating Super Bowl with him was one of our best moments. Although we have shared so many memories we cherish him as a husband, father, and a leader. Deacon James Cousar, was a true fighter, he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2005. James is one of God's strongest soldiers. He continued to work hard until May 28, 2024, when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He fought a good fight until that faithful day on July 21, 2024, when God called him home. James leaves to cherish memories to his wife Renee Cousar; his five children, Dannie Nesmith, Deborah Cousar, Andrew, Teona, and Ziair Cousar; seven beautiful grandchildren, Marcella, and Zahmare Wright, Apollo, Azaira, and Aubresnna Nesmith, Jelanie Hayward, and Jaeon Jackson; sister, Lorna Cousar; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. Besides being welcomed by his heavenly father James will be met by his parents, daughter Danai Nesmith, and two sisters Pam and Tracey Cousar.
