James Battle

James Battle, Jr. rejoiced as God’s angels from glory welcomed his soul home to a haven of eternal rest and reward on January 19, 2004. He was born in Savannah, Georgia on March 7, 1938 to the late James Battle and Eloise Brown Rivers.On November 21, 1970, James and his exquisite Janis Brown invited the Lord to preside over their union as they were married. One daughter was born of that union, Janissa Michelle Battle. Upon the joining of this new union, two families merged and became one. Children from James prior marriage include: Mark Anthony Battle Steven James Battle, Renee Selina Battle, Terry Battle, Bridget Battle and William Pickens.During his teen years, James relocated to Baltimore, Maryland and joined the United States Army where he completed his education. He became a proud soldier who insisted that everything that surrounded him be “dress right dress.” He was also a strong-willed, strict and disciplined individual who believed and in stilled in others that if you wanted something, then you were expected to achieve it through work.” During his years of military service, he was awarded several medals and commendations, which include: Good Conduct Medals, Senior Aircraft Crewman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. The years of service to his country took him to varied duty stations …Germany, Vietnam (2 tours), Fort Bliss, Texas, Ft Eustis, Virginia and finally, Fort Meade, Maryland. Staff Sergeant James Battle, Jr. retired from the Army on November 30, 1976 after rendering twenty years of honorable service to this grateful Nation.Upon retirement from the Armed Services, James became quite adaptable to the to the civilian work experience and ways of life. He held a variety of positions until he became ill in 2000. He served as an Administrator, Howard Security Systems; Manager, Jiffy Lube Salesman, Sears, Roebuck & Co., and worked as an Insurance Agent.Fond memories of James will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Janis Brown Battle; seven children; six grandchildren; one sister, Rosetta White; two brothers, Benjamin Rivers and Skip Battle; mother-in-law, Helen Brown; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Tyson and two brothers-in-law, henry M. White and Paul Tyson; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord you God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
