Deacon James William Anthony,Jr.

Deacon James William Anthony,Jr.,departed this life to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning,May 8,2013 in the comfort of his daughter's home in Quinton,Virginia. He was born on October 25,1928 in Richmopnd,Virginia to the late James William Anthony,Sr. and the late Helen Tucker Anthony. He was the second of two children. He also had an adopted brother,Gordon Robinson(deceased). Upon graduation from Armstrong High School in 1946,he attended Virginia Union University for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in January 1948,during the Korean War. He served for 4 years and obtained the rank of Sargeant. While stationed in St. Louis,Missouri,he married Eunice Mae Tyree on June 25,1951. From this union,two sons,Michael David Anthony,Melvin Daryl Anthony,and one daughter,Marcia Diane Anthony(Lamb) were born. He accepted Christ early in life and joined Trinity Baptist Church where in adulthood,he became and remained a faithful member,serving in varoious capacities until he faced many health challenges that limited his mobility for regular attendance. He had a strong love for the Lord and endeavored to not just talk the word of God,but walk it out. A heart full of compassion and service toward others will be his legacy. Having a great love for his family,he enjoyed family gatherings and placed spending time together as a family high on his list of priorities. He also found great pleasure in gardening with his wife,breeding German Shepherds,and reading books. His personal library was extensive for he had a huge thirst for knowledge. His retirement from the U.S. Postal Services as a Claim Specialist in January 1987,did not slow him down. He devoted more time to selling real estate as an agent and associate broker. He also attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College to take courses in Business Law and Accounting. Finally retiring fully from all work outside of the home in June 1992,gave him more time to sepend with his grandchildren which gave him many stories to proudly share. He leaves to cherish his memory,love and wisdom,a devoted Proverbs 31 women/wife of almost 62 years,Eunice,three children,Michael Anthony (Jenise) of Landham,Maryland,Marcia Lamb (Ronnie) of Quinton,Virginia and Melvin Anthony (Annie) of Henrico,Virginia;seven grandchildren,LaToya"Yolando"Cotman (Donta,Sr.) of Charles City,Virginia,Brian and Briana AnthonyKristyn,Korey, and Kaleb Lamb,Anthony Davis(Yvonne) of Atlanta,Georgia,three great grandchildren,Donta Cotman,Jr.,Dominique and Danyel Davis;a loving sister,Edna A. Davis of Richmond,Virginia;sister-in-law,Marquerite Simpson of Washington,DC;aunt,Minnie Tucker,94 of Washington,D.C.; and a host of nieces,nephews,cousin and friends. There were numerous family members and close friends preceded him in death.
