Jacqueline M. Murray

After a lengthy illness, JACQUELINE M. MURRAY, daughter of the late Percy and Thelma V. Nicholson, Jr. was called home by the Lord to her heavenly rest. Jacqueline received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools, and was a graduate of Morgan State University. Jackie earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Education from Morgan State University, and a Master's Degree in Administration Supervision and also held certification in Special Education. Jackie began teaching in the Baltimore City Public School in 1969, having chosen this profession because she enjoyed teaching children and preparing them for life. She advanced to a Master Teacher, and also became a Vice Principal in 2003. Jackie married her loving husband Ellwood (Ricky) L. Murray on May 18, 1980. They respected the commitment of being husband and wife and both cherished true love with joy and compassion ti the very end. No one who was privileged to know her is likely to forget her candor, the courage of her faith, and the warmth of her friendship and love that she shared with everyone she met. Jackie made numerous friends wherever she went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her. She didn't have any children of her own, but she was a loving and devoted aunt to all of her nieces, nephews and god-children. Jackie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior a an early age. She was never ashamed to say to anyone how God had blessed her in so many ways. Jackie always started her day with devotions; and anyone who knew her never called her before 11am. This time she spent with her God. Jackie's faith was very strong. Her doctors told her on three occasions that she had less than a month to survive. Her response would always be, “You don't know my God. You are only a layman, but God has the final say!” As a devoted member of Douglas Memorial Community Church, she extended her love for children there by becoming a part of the Nursery Ministry Staff. Jackie leaves to mourn: her loving husband of 36 years, Ellwood L. Murray; sisters, Zelda V. Jones (John) of Horsham, PA and Vonza E. Anderson (Andrew Sr.); brother, Percy Nicholson III; aunt, Naomi Pearson; brother-in-law, Dr. Bennie Purnell; nieces, nephews, god-children and a host of other relatives and friends. Her sister Barbara C. Purnell preceded her in death.
