Ivan Gregory Underwood

Our beloved IVAN GREGORY UNDERWOOD was born January 7, 1961 in Richmond, Virginia to Jean L. Underwood and the late James C. Underwood. He entered into eternal peace on Sunday, October 15, 2017 after a brief illness. He is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Underwood. He graduated from John Marshall High School in June Class of 1979. Following high school, Ivan enlisted into the United States Army serving his county proudly for six years. He received an honorably discharge and returned back to Richmond working as a machinist. He expressed his faith in Jesus Christ at a young age, he accepted Christ and began his spiritual journey with First Union Baptist Church. Ivan brought laughter and joy to everyone who graced his presence. He had a tremendously big heart and to know him was truly to love him. Ivan enjoyed being with his family and special close friends. “Ike” as he was known was a loving father, son, brother, uncle and kind-hearted friend that enjoyed watching his favorite sports team, the Washington Redskins. The gifts of love he left behind will always be treasured. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Latiya Underwood and Shannon Anderson; son, Gregory Turner; two grandchildren; mother, Jean L. Underwood; brothers, Waverly Tuppince, Bernard and Rodney Underwood; aunts, Delorise Cotman and Inez Bagby; uncle, Langston Underwood (Tina) and James A. Manley (Marsha); fiancee, Maybelle “Puddin” Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends. When Tomorrow Starts Without Me When tomorrow starts without me and I’m not there to see, If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me, I wish so much you wouldn’t cry the way you did today, While thinking of the many things we didn’t get to say. I know how much you love me, as much as I love you, and each time that you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too. But when tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name, Ivan...Ivan...Ivan And took me by the hand, and said my place was ready, In heaven far above, and that I’d have to leave behind All those I dearly love. So when tomorrow starts without me, Don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there, in your heart.
