Irean Bailey

“Gabriel on orders from the Supreme Father again has sounded His trumpet and summoned one more of His Christian soldiers home.”On March 1, 2004 Irean Robinson Bailey waved farewell to this Old World of trouble and strife.She was born in Painter, Virginia on November 25, 1909/ She was the youngest child of the late Leaven Robinson and the late Betty Parker. She lost her mother at a very early age, but was lovingly raised by her stepmother, the late Miss Hester. She had seventeen brothers and sisters, of whom proceeded her in death. She attended school in Painter, Virginia, but she really liked to spend her time at home on the farm raising her chickens and learning how to make a comfortable home.She accepted Christ as her Savoir at an early age at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Painter. In 1945, she moved her residence to Baltimore and was joined in holy matrimony to the late Sam H. Bailey. She worked as a domestic for a few years and joined the Sweet Hope Freewill Baptist Church here in Baltimore. She was always known as a homebody and noted for her down home cooking, especially those hot rolls and sweet potato pies.She worked diligently in her church until her health began to fail, but this did not stop her from serving her Lord. Most of the time when you entered her home, you would hear the songs of ZION and words of PRAISE coming from her radio. She often called her friends to share the GOODNESS of the MASTER. She strongly believed that with GOD all things were possible.She was the mother of the late Milton R. Dudley, the late George E. Bailey and one surviving son Charles Doughty, Sr. She raised her children with a iron hand, but followed it with a gentle pat. She babysat and helped to raise so many other children that she was fondly called MOM by a lot of people. Honesty, respect, love truthfulness and courtesy were her mottos.She leaves to mourn their loss, one son, Charles Doughty, Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Margaret E. Doughty; three granddaughters, Irene P. Montaque, Elizabeth A. McCain and Charlene E. Gatewood; two grandsons, Charles Doughty, Jr. and Vernell McFarland; adopted grandson, George Collins; seventeen great-grandchildren; nineteen great great grandchildren; three grandsons-in-law, Rev. Ernest L. Montaque, Nathan McCain, Steve Gatewood; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, a devoted friend, Lillian Slater; and other relatives and friends in Virginia and Baltimore.
