Ida R. Ross

On July 25, 2007 the Spirit of God stepped forth and called her, one of his loving servants, IDA R. ROSS, from labor to reward. Ida, daughter of the late Elizah and Jessie Rainey, was born on February 6, 1912 in Victoria, Virginia.She received her education at the Victoria Training School.Upon accepting Jesus Christ as her personal savior, Ida was baptized at the First Baptist Church, Victoria.In September 1937, she left Victoria, Virginia for eleven years and made her home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Later, Baltimore, Maryland became her home.Ida worked for Edgewood Arsenal of Baltimore for eleven years. Finally, she retired from Fort Meade, Maryland where she worked from 1951-1981.On October 19, 1954, Ida married the late Alexander Ross. No children were born of this union.She truly loved the Lord and enjoyed doing His work. As she traveled on her Christian journey, she became a member of Southern Baptist Church, served the Lord to the best of her ability, and acquired many friends as a member of the Flower Circle.Her family, whom she loved, called her “Aunt Ida.” She was known to her friends as “Sister Ida.”To all who remember Ida, she tried to touch them with the love God gave her; with a wink, a smile, a warm word, a gentle touch. She knew the power of laughter and enjoyed bringing laughter to others.When you asked her how she was doing, remember that “for a young lady, I’m doing good,” was always her response. Everyone seemed to make out over her hats and clothes.Her son Creed Berry, whom she cherished and greatly loved, preceded her in death on August 20, 1993 and is resting with our Lord.Since it is now time for her to ascend from this body and be present with her Lord, she regretfully leaves these cherished family members behind: one grandson, Joseph Cary Williams; one great-granddaughter, Iola and three great-great-grandchildren, all of Baltimore; along with special friends, Earl Street (godson), Carlette Streat (goddaughter), and a good friend, Maxine Gain. Additionally, she leaves a host of nephews, nieces, friends and her church family at Southern Baptist Church.
