Ida Eley

A Time To Be Born...IDA MARIE ELEY, the daughter of the late Minnie M. and Doc M. Washington, was born on December 18, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland. A Time To Die...Ida quietly and peacefully made a victorious triumphant entrance into the presence of God on Wednesday, July 26, 2006. A Time To Build... Ida received her primary education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She graduated from the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in June 1949. She continued on her educational journey graduating from what was Coppin State College in 1965, and pursued graduate courses at what was Towson State College. At an early age, Ida accepted Christ and joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jarrett Butler. After moving to the Howard Park Community in 1965, Ida joined in fellowship with Concord Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Matthew R. Silver. A Time To Love... Ida joined in holy matrimony with Ralph (Fuzz) over fifty (50) years ago. God blessed them with Maurice and Sheila. Ida loved her family unconditionally. She loved to travel, to cook for her family and to entertain her friends. Ida and Fuzz were known for wonderfully delicious family meals and their warm hospitality during home cookouts. Everyone enjoyed Aunt Ida's potato salad and fried oysters. She always encouraged young family members "to taste it before you say you don't like it." A Time To Share...Ida taught in the Baltimore City Public Schools and retired from Rognel Heights Elementary School #89. Ida was a member of Las Compa–eras, the Maryland Retired Teachers' Association, a lifetime member of the Howard Park Senior Center, a lifetime member of the NAACP and a lifetime member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. She was a 2005 Valued Hours honoree of the Fullwood Foundation. At Concord Baptist Church, Ida taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a longtime member of the White's Memorial Circle and served as the assistant announcing clerk. Ida was a member of the Courtesy Committee, the Pastor's Guild, the Memorial Committee and assisted with the Share Food Ministry.A Time To Say Goodbye... Ida leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Ralph (Fuzz); a son, Maurice; a daughter, Sheila; a sister, Dorothy Washington; an aunt, Elsie Moore; a daughter-in-law, Vera Eley; granddaughters, Michelle and Erica; great-grandchildren, Antwon, Kyle, Alrice, D'Arndre, Vanity and Reagan; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Eley and Corinda Jones; brothers-in-law, Louis Curry II and Daniel Cliff Smith; and a host of other relatives and many devoted friends. Two days after Ida's passing, on July 28, 2006, her mother-in-law, Ida Marie Gayles, quietly passed away.
