Hubert McLean

Hubert McLean, Sr., son of the late Jerry and Effie Jane McLean was born on November 20, 1916 in Lillietown, North Carolina. He departed this life on October 2, 2004. He attended school in Wade, North Carolina where he met his future wife, Ruth. In his earlier years, he worked as a cement finisher with the Ralph De Charion Construction Company in New York. When the company relocated to Maryland, Hubert moved his family from North Carolina to continue working for the company. He was employed there for ten years. In 1963, he began working at the Green Spring Inn and also with the Precision Construction Company. He remained at the Green Spring Inn for fourteen years. Hubert retired as a foreman from the Precision Construction Company after working there for 30 years. He was a very hard and dedicated worker, and really enjoyed his work. Hubert was known as "Pops" to friends and neighbors. He was friendly to everyone. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and loved to reminisce about the "good old days". He had a green-thumb and maintained a bountiful garden for many years. Hubert enjoyed early morning fishing trips with his son-in-law, George Dale. He loved his family and spoke often of his grandchildren with pride. He was a gracious and humble man who never complained. Hubert loved and spoke of his Savior often. He was loved by many and will be missed by all, whose lives he touched. Hubert McLean leaves to mourn: his wife of 69 years, Ruth McLean; one son, Hubert McLean, Jr.; six daughters, Pearl Dale, Gail Rivers, Ida McLean, Agnes Williams, Kim Thompson, and Brenda Hicks; a devoted grandson, Hubert McLean III; 54 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Corbett; one brother, Lofton McLean; one daughter-in-law, Edna McLean; three sons-in-law, George Dale, James Rivers, and Richard Williams; three sisters-in-law, Fannie Mae Williams, Bennie Mae Isaac, and Lena Isaac; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Isaac, and Sammie Isaac; four god-daughters, Gloria Molock, Annette Boyd, Ruth Ruffins, and Kathy Adams; one god-son, Charles Cox; and a host of other relatives and friends.
