Hilton Beard Sr.

DEACON HILTON CORNELIUS BEARD SR., son of the late Hilda Iola Beard and grandson of the late Sadie Elizabeth Beard and George Oliver Beard, was born on July 6, 1932 in Cockeysville, Maryland. He was affectionately called Hillpie, Deddy, Pop Pop by his family. Two sisters Annette Bedford and Edith Cromwell preceded him in death. He went home to glory on August 5, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He married the love of his life, Bessie Smith on December 31, 1952. To this union six children were born Deborah and Patricia preceded him in death, Linda, Jo Ann, Hilton Jr., and Reginald who proceeded him in death and adopted daughter Yvette. Hilton was educated in the Baltimore County Public School System and graduated from Carver High School on June 8, 1951. He joined the United States Army on January 2, 1953 and received an Honorable Discharge on September 21, 1954. He served a tour duty in France. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and received an award for Rifle Artillery. Under the leadership of the late Rev. M. M. Jefferson Pastor of Edgewood United Methodist Church, Hilton accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He served on the usher board and received an Evangelical Teacher Training Association Layspeaker Certificate from Edgewood UMC for years 1978-1979. The Lord led him to Old Landmark Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor George Cockrell Sr. He was ordained as Deacon in the year 1981. He received a certificate from Source of Life Schools Bible Correspondence Course on January 5, 1986. The Lord led him to New Frontiers of Faith in your 1986. He received a Certificate of Deacon Ordination on November 1, 1987 by the late Pastor Eugene Grove. He loved serving the Lord. He LOVED his church, he also was on the Male Chorus, church handy man, whatever capacity the church needed him, he would avail himself. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board after the passing of Deacon Karro/I Parker. He resigned as Chairman of the Deacon Board on February 20, 2022 due to his health. Obituary He loved his wife Bessie, he spoiled her rotten. They loved to travel, shop and eating out at restaurants. He loves his family, spoiled all his grands. He loved family dinners, he would sit back and smile because he had his family with him. He was an excellent father to his children and a good provider to his family. He loved sports, Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. He worked 3 jobs so that his wife did not have to work, he wanted her to stay at home raising the children. He was employed by Towson Ford Sales for a number of years and Baltimore County Public Library from which he retired. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Bessie Beard; three daughters, Linda (Aaron) Green Sr., Jo Ann (Rodney) Brown Sr., Yvette (Maurice) Wood; one son, Hilton Beard Jr.; six grandchildren, Jermaine Woodhouse, Aaron Green Jr., Ashley Green, Deborah Green, Krissy Wood; two great-grandchildren, Loshe’ Woodhouse and Jermaine (Scooter) Woodhouse; three great-great-grandchildren, Karter Chuba, Layla Crane and Zachariah Woodhouse; one sister Annette Bedford; godson, Michael Harris; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
