Herman L. Eatman

Herman Lee Eatman, Sr., son of the late Tony & Georgia Mae was born in Selma, Alabama on July 29, 1933 and peacefully transitioned from his earthly home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2018 following complications from illness. He received his education at Dallas County Public Schools in Alabama. He enlisted into the Army in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He moved to Baltimore in the late 1950's and became a member of Gillis Memorial Christian Community Church soon after under the leadership of the late Reverend Theodore C. Jackson Sr. Following years of faithful membership, he became a member of the Senior Usher Board under the leadership of the late Reverend Theodore C. Jackson Jr. He married the love of his life, Delores Generette, on June 8, 1957 and from their union came 4 children: Herman Jr., (Deceased), Dwight (Deceased), Bridgette (Deceased), and Linda. He retired in 1991 as Supervisor of Security for Clifton T. Perkins State Hospital where he worked for over 30 years. He loved to bowl and was on the bowling team. 'Just Us' for several years in the 70's where he and the team received numerous trophies and awards. Even after his years of team bowling, he still frequently went to the lanes to bowl by himself or to watch the bowling tournaments. He was a devoted family man and looked forward to taking his granddaughter and grandson to yearly events like the amusement park's haunted house. He loved family gatherings and traveling with Delores. He loved helping where ever he was needed and would pick up and/or drop off other church members anytime he could. His favorite hymns were: I Won't Complain' and 'Going up Yonder.' He will be missed but his love for God, his wife, family and friends as well as the church he served and attended for over 50 years is his testament that he was a faithful Christian man and is now home with his Heavenly Father. He leaves to mourn: his wife of 61 years, Delores, daughter, Linda Darnell, one granddaughter, Ebonie Bridges Whitfield (Christopher), one grandson, Emanuel Riley, two great granddaughters, Cienna Joelle and Elaina Shanelle, two brothers, Lawrence Fitts and Howard Key, two sisters, Mary Brown and Novetta Tubbs and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
