Henry Lovelace Watkins

Henry Lovelace Watkins was born October 13, 1929 to the late Jasper and Rosa Brown-Watkins in Warren County, North Carolina. He departed this life peacefully, January 6, 2012, to receive his fortune of eternal life. Henry is preceded in death by his siblings, James Earl Watkins, Sarah Rose Kinlaw and Mary Elizabeth Green. He accepted his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church. He graduated from Warren County’s Training School in Warrenton, North Carolina. Henry was a vibrate young man that had plans for his life. Therefore, he wanted to service his country and enlisted in the United States Army and served as a medic. Upon receiving a honorable discharge, he returned home to North Carolina where he fell in love with Dorothy Maynard and happily united January 29, 1954. Their union was blessed with two children. He was formerly employed by Estes Express Lines as a local Truck Driver for 24 years of dedicated service. He was a family man, that provided for his family. Henry was full of life, spirit so radiant that when he was in the room you knew. He was outgoing, spontaneous, fun and a caring person. It was nothing for him to befriend you and be a part of your life. He taught himself the things he wanted to learn. Henry filled his leisure time with baseball, gardening and the joy of his four-legged friend, Harriet. Most of all, Henry enjoyed the many delicious meals prepared by Dorothy, whom he adored and shared his life with. Henry’s zest for life was incredible and infectious. His family was everything. It was intoxicating to him. Our beloved Henry will be missed by all. I know that he lives in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him. Because of the wonderful love he shared, he will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. We were so fortunate to have had him in our lives and we feel empty without him, but we know he would want us to “stay strong”. He leaves to cherish his memory to loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Dorothy Watkins; two caring children, Lorenzo Watkins and Ververly Watkins Grant; grandson, Lorenzo Henry; son-in-law, Dwight Grant; sister, Gertrude Patterson; brother-in-law, Frank Patterson; sister-in-law, Betty Watkins, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and neighbors.
