Henry H Edens, Jr.

HENRY H. EDENS, JR., son of Pastor Henry A. Edens, Sr. and the late Mary E. Edens, was born on April 2, 1937, in Wilmington, North Carolina. He departed this life on October 28, 2016 after a short illness. Henry received his education in the Baltimore City School system and graduated from Carver High School. Henry served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America for three years. Henry worked at Bethlehem Steel (Sparrows Point) for 37 years before he retired. At an early age, Henry accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and was baptized at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Henry later moved his membership to Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church where his father, Rev. Henry A. Edens, Sr was pastor. In later years, Henry became a member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until his death. Henry was a member of the Senior Prime Timers. Harvey as he was called by his family and friends, grew up loving softball and became a softball pitcher. Harvey and Marvin were avid movie goers and sports fans. They loved spending time together and they both loved going to the Orioles games. Harvey knew his sister Vernice loved the Orioles so he created a tradition where every August which was her birthday month, he would get them tickets to see the Orioles, Harvey also loved spending time with his family especially sharing those home cooked meals that his youngest sister Beverly would cook. On some Saturdays, Harvey would come to the family house and share in bible study that his dad taught. Harvey always showed his kindness towards the family with special occasion envelopes which was loved by all. He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Pastor Emeritus, Henry A. Edens, Sr.; one brother, Marvin Edens; six sisters, Vernice E. Thaniel of Mechanicsville, VA, Mildred (Gilton) Pitts of Hampstead, NC, Gilda Woodward, Cynthia (Roland) Carrington of Shrewsbury, PA, Sheila (William) Butts and Beverly Edens; one uncle, Rev. Joseph H. (Lillian) Copeland, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA; three aunts, Ethel Ellis of Portsmouth, VA, Lillie Baysmore of Chesapeake, VA and Annie (Eugene) Jones of Portsmouth, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Henr was preceded in death by his mother Mary E. Edens, and his sister, Joyce Massey.
