Henrietta McCray

HENRIETTA HOUSE McCRAY was born to the late Joseph and Carrie Dingle-House on August 1, 1922 in Summerton, South Carolina. She departed her life to be with the Lord on July 5, 2009. She accepted the Lord into her life as her personal Savior and joined St. Matthew A.M.E. Church. She loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She loved reading and quoting the twenty-third Psalm, “The Lord is my Shepherd”.She received her education at Scotts Branch High School in Manning, South Carolina. Henrietta moved to Baltimore at an early age where she met and married the late Emanuel McCray. She then joined Shiloh Christian Community Church under the leadership of the late Reverend George W. Baynard. She later became a member of First Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Oscar Brown, whose sermons she loved.Henrietta McCray was a funny, outspoken person who loved people and life. She loved to go shopping at Security Square Mall with her sister and cousin all the time. She would always have her radio tuned to Spirit 1400 and television tuned to the Price is Right. During her younger days she could be seen selling frozen cups to the neighborhood children. She also enjoyed trips to Wal-Mart and especially dining at Denny’s. There wasn’t a day that went by that Henrietta did not tell you about the goodness of the Lord. She was a very spiritual person who believed highly in the Lord God Almighty.Preceding her in death was her husband Emanuel McCray, daughter Regina Harland, son Gene McCray, and sister Evelyn Mitchell.She leaves to cherish her memory: her two daughters Joanne Carpenter and Denise Matthews and one son Johnny Lee McCray; six grandchildren, Antonio Christian, Nichae Byrd, Ronald Matthews, Emanuel McCray, Jonah McCray, Candace McCray; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Richburg and Ethel Moore of Calvert County, Md.; one brother-in-law Harry Richburg; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann McCray, Ruth McCray and Pearl Ben; two daughters-in-law, Evangelist Patricia McCray and Mary McCray. She also leaves two good friends Rachel Hicks and Marie Kinlow, a special cousin Louise Wright and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
