Helen Louise Williams

Helen Louise Williams, daughter of the Late Clifton Hatton Sr. and Estella Stewart was born on August 12, 1945 in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She departed this life on August 2, 2017. Helen received her early education from the Baltimore City Public School System. She later acquired her G.E.D. and took various classes at Morgan State University to further her education. She was employed by Westinghouse from 1978 - 1992. After leaving Westinghouse, she became full-time daycare provider. Helen gave her life to Christ and joined St. John's Christian Community Church over 30 years ago. There, she served as a member of the Flower Circle and she also was a member of the choir. She married Wilbert Wendell Williams fifty-four years ago, and from this union, they had five children. Helen and Wendell were together for 60 years. She loved her husband and he loved her. They had their ups and downs, but their love for each other was always evident. After all the years of marriage, it was still entertaining to watch the two together. Their home was like a comedy house, and Helen could easily match Wendell's wit. The education of her children was extremely important to her. She was a very active member of the Parents Teacher's Association. If a Teacher called her, there was only one version, the Teacher's version, And...we all knew what was next. There was absolutely nothing she would not do for her children. Whatever needed to be done, she made it happen. She MADE it happen. She was each one of her children's best friend. When there was pain, the healing process would begin with her. We thank God for the time He allowed us to have with her. We thank God for giving us the best mother ever. She loved her grandchildren. Grandma or Ma-Ma, they affectionately called her. They all knew that they could count on her for everything. She spoiled them as a grandmother would. They loved hanging out with her because there was never a dull moment. She became Ma-Ma to her day care children and a mother to their parents. The parents would come in and put their child in the bed with Ma-Ma. Many of them are now in college and grown. They continued to keep in touch and visit with Ma-Ma on special occasions. Her love for children led to her having more than twenty God children. Helen was special to everyone. Everyone has a memorable moment or story about her. She opened her home to anyone in need. If you needed a home, until you "got back on your feet," Helen had your back. It was rare not to have a guest in their home. That was just Helen, Child of God. Helen was wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, Godmother, and friend. She was Madea before there was a Madea. She had a heart of God, and was tough as steel. She exemplified the meaning of a strong woman. Her work is done here, and what a mighty fine job! Helen leaves to mourn: her husband, Wilbert Wendell Williams, children, Ronald Williams Sr. (Keron), Anthony Williams, Sr. (Alberta), Terri Johnson, Kenneth Williams Sr. (Stephanie) Juan Williams; four sisters, Lola Williams, Carolyn Coleman, Gwendolyn and Nadine; one sister who proceeded her in death, Alice Hunter; three brothers, Jack Hunter, Thomas Watts, Sr., and Jeffrey Watts; five brothers who proceeded her in death, Kenneth Cowan, Clifton Hatton, Jr., Curtis Hatton and Arthur Hatton, Marvin Watts; twenty grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, Zennie Reid, Carolyn Echols, Brenda Williams-Owens (Ronald) Thelma Hatton; two brothers-in-law, Calvin Williams (Cecelia), two special friends, Phyllis Smith and Julia Harvey. A host of godchildren, including devoted Kasheera Hayes, a special cousin Linda Proctor, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
