Helen C. Lee

HELEN CARTER LEE was born on December 31, 1927 to the late George and Blanche Stewart in Westmoreland, Virginia. The Lord peacefully called her home on June 13, 2019 after a brief illness. Helen was brought to Baltimore when she was a baby, where she was raised by her late aunt and uncle, Clara and William Bell. She attended school in Baltimore City and, during her summers, she spent time in Virginia with her family there. Helen accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior while attending the Grace Memorial Baptist Church. In later years, she consecrated her life to the Lord and became an active member of Agape Christian Baptist Church. After a number of wonderful years worshipping at Agape, she joined Loch Hill Ekkelesia Christian Church where her family attended. Although she loved the clear, scriptural preaching of the word, the singing of the hymns, the fellowship of the saints and being blessed with a new church family that loved and spoiled her, she continued to maintain her relationships with her Agape family. Helen was faithful in her church attendance to the end. In 1950, Helen moved to Arlington, VA. Her Cousin Arlene came from Baltimore to visit her and there she met and married her husband of sixty years. Cupid’s work was done. Helen moved back to Baltimore and in 1964 she married the late James Lee, affectionately known as Buster. There were no children born of this union, but they helped raise two of her nieces, Myra Leto (Julio) of California and Cynthia Robinson of Texas. Helen was affectionately known as Heidi, a nickname she acquired when toddler Myra was attempting to call her Aunt Helen. She worked a number of jobs and retired as a school crossing guard where she made many more friends. She was a mother figure to many, a kind, friendly and feisty person who had no problem sharing what was on her mind. She loved to eat and her favorite foods were fried chicken, steamed crabs, shrimp and ice cream. Helen will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her five sisters and their spouses, Inez (George), Dorothy (Crosby), Marion (Lloyd), Clara (Dallas), Ethel; and nephew, Gregory. She leaves to cherish her memory: eighteen nieces and nephews and their spouses, a host of great- and great- great nieces, nephews and cousins.
