Helen Dickerson

Helen Mildred Dickerson, the second oldest child of the late Sherman and Lillie Mae Blue, was born on January 13, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. She died suddenly and entered eternal rest on December 29, 2004. At a tender age, she was baptized and gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. During her childhood, she attended Giillis Memorial Baptist Church and later became a member of Truth and Love Lighthouse International Church. Helen was a graduate of Carver Vocational Technical High School. Throughout her life, she wanted to help others. Therefore, she pursued a career in nursing by graduating from Baltimore City Community College's nursing program and late Coppin State College. She is a retiree of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center's Nursing Department. After retirement, she was the manager/proprietor of several assisted living facilities until her death. Some of Helen's interests were shopping, dancing, music and most of all, spending time with family and friends. She spent countless hours conversing with friends and family via telephone to wee hours into the night. Helen's favorite foods were crabs and an assortment of home-cooked foods from her devoted husband. In addition, it was often that she was seen socializing with her loving sisters and their spouses. On February 3, 1962, Helen was united in marriage to Leon R. Dickerson, Jr. They made their home in Owings Mills and have loved each other for over forty-four years. Out of this union, three children were born; twin sons, the late Leon R. III, Cleon, Sr. and one daughter, Adrienne. In addition, she was overjoyed with love for one grandson, Cleon Jr. (C.J.) and one granddaughter, Miranda (Randy). Helen was a kind, loving, and giving wife and mother. She was also a dedicated friend to many. She truly loved her children; she was not just their mother, but also their mentor. On December 15, 2001, one son, Leon R. Dickerson III, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn: her committed husband, Leon R. Dickerson, Jr.; son, Cleon, Sr.; daughter, Adrienne; grandson, Cleon, Jr. (C.J.); granddaughter, Miranda; brother, Sherman Thomas Blue; two sisters, Lillian Perry and youngest sister Shirley Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
