Hazel Mae Sherod

First born to the late Sarah and Henry Carson Williams was a beautiful baby girl named HAZEL MAE WILLIAMS the first of eighteen children. She departed this life after a lengthy illness on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Today we celebrate her life and give thanks for Hazel being part of our life. In 1945, she was united in marriage to the late Daniel C. Sherod and they were blessed with six children: (JoAnn (deceased), Emogene, Geraldine, Daniel (Butch-deceased), Timothy (deceased) and Henry. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Whiteville, North Carolina and First Emmanuel Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Hazel was a member of the Eastern Star of Baltimore. Hazel attended Mt. Olive High School in Whiteville, North Carolina. She attended nursing school in New York. Hazel worked at Lutheran Hospital, Kernan Nursing Home and Walter P. Carter (Spring Grove State Hospital) for many years and occasionally would proctor the National Teachers Exam (NTE) at Coppin State University. She retired in 1986 to take care of her husband, Daniel C. Sherod during his illness. Hazel was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed cooking for her family, siblings and friends. She would help anyone in need. It has not always been a smooth road. Through it all we cherish the times with Mom. Mom was not just a mother of six, but a mother to each and everyone who was in her life in some way or another. Many siblings, children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren diapers did she changed. Hazel leaves to cherish her memory: her twin daughters, Emogene Brown and Geraldine Church of Baltimore, Maryland; and one son, Henry Sherod of Springdale, Maryland; nine grandchildren, twentythree great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mae Singleton (Robert) and Emmajean Estes of Pennsylvania, Vernie Mae Greene of New York and Isadora Mckoy of North Carolina; three brothers, Pinkley Williams (Myrtle), Cleveland Williams (Christine) and Shelton Williams (Patricia) all of North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Minnie Williams, Doris Williams and Yvonnie Williams of North Carolina; aunts, Agnes Williams, Elizabeth Nichols, Lucy Williams and Essie Best of North Carolina; special cousin, Barbara Griffin (Willie) of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
