Hazel K. Moore

Suddenly on a quiet Wednesday morning, October 8, 2008, Hazel Katherine Rogers Moore departed this earthly life for a better one. She was born on April 9, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland, the second child of the late Andrew and Orabell Rogers. She continued to live in Baltimore where she was educated in the school system, and worked in different parts of the city. Hazel was employed at High Rock Soda, Friendship Airport (now know as Marshall-Baltimore/Washington Airport), Windsor Inn, various racetracks, and the Joseph Center.All of her jobs had two things in common, people and food. Hazel loved both. Her skills in the kitchen kept her in demand and her personality made her popular. She met many people whom she made smile or crack up laughing at her jokes or stories about the simple things of life; one of those people was Willard Moore a long time companion whom she married in 2000.Not having children of her own, she was a second mother to her sister Mary and her late brother-in-law, James, fie children, two of which preceded her in death. Being friends with one of the children meant that you met and was entertained by “Aunt Hazel”, which is what all of the children’s friends called her too. Hazel also loved to travel. The children either took or sent Hazel and Mary on trips throughout the US and the Bahamas. When Hazel told stories of the trips or life in general, her humor and storytelling skills often made you wish you had been with her. There is no one who could relate a story like Hazel, and if you didn’t get it the first time, she’d tell it again. No one commanded your attention like her. Hazel loved the Lord, and it showed in the way she expressed her love for people, especially children. She is going to be missed more than words can say. Family dinners, social gatherings, church functions and vacation sports will not be the same because Hazel’s larger-than-life presence will be missing.Hazel leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Willard Moore; her sister, Mary Rogers Chase; her nephew, Tyron Chase who was the son of her spirit; nieces; Rev. Jalene Chase and Shirlene Chase; step-children; Jackie Ross, Kevin,Morris, Debbie Moore and Willard Moore, Jr.; aunts; Margaret Harris and Olemae Oden; numerous cousins including Joyce Little who she called her daughter; and a host of family, adopted children and friends and Deloris Mercer who she also called her daughter.
