Hattie Mae Day

Hattie Mae Day, daughter of the Reverend James Brisco and the late Annie Keene, was born on April 27, 1930 in Meekin Neck, Maryland. She departed this life on Friday, July 25, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland after a lengthy illness.She received her education in the Dorchester County Public School System.For several years, Hattie was employed at Airpax in Cambridge, Maryland. After moving with her children to Baltimore, Maryland, she obtained her Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification and served thirty years as a nurse’s assistant in several nursing homes. Hattie retired in 1983.“Hattie Day” or “Mama”, as she was affectionately known, met Eli Day Sr., who recently preceded her in death. They were united in holy matrimony on December 22, 1964. She was the mother of eight children.Her passions were helping everyone and caring for her children and grandchildren. She often went to the bingo halls where she enjoyed a competitive game of Bingo.Prior to a massive stroke, Hattie received salvation where she rededicated her life to Jesus Christ at the Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. She leaves to mourn: her father, the Reverend James Brisco; six daughters, Theresa Moore, JoAnne Johnson, Earlene Bushrod, Sheila Johnson, Denise Day and Colette Day; two sons, Steven Johnson and Alaxander Day; fifteen grandchildren, Tylia, Kevin Sr., Shavilla, Jamar, Courtney Sr., James, Ricardo Jr., Keith Sr., Briannetta, Brian, Shante, Dericka, DeJesus, Shamira and Senay; eighteen great-grandchildren; three sons-in-law, Albert Gibson, Harry Bushrod and Kevin Moore; and one daughter-in-law Aletha Johnson. Also mourning her death are three sisters-in-law, Lena Bolden, Julie Keene and Doretha Luke.Five brothers will always remember her gently: Floyd Keene Jr., Joseph and William Keene, Michael Brisco and District Elder Samuel Brisco; and two brothers-in-law, Milton Bolden and Henry Luke; and three sisters-in-law, Nettie Keene, Regina Brisco and Valerie Brisco. A host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends were touched by her legacy.Preceding her in death were her step-father Floyd Keene Jr., and two sisters, Jeanette Dennis and Mary Molock.
