Hattie Jones

Family Background: Hattie Elizabeth Horne Jones departed this life on July 11, 2014 at her home surrounded by her husband, son and grandson. Hattie A. Jones was born to the late Chester and Tessie Home on January 27, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland. Five siblings preceded her in death, three brothers, Robert, Chester Jr. and Willie James and two sisters, Carrie Hamlin and Tessie Richardson. Hattie was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church. She loved her church and was a faithful member and was in various organizations inthe church: she headed Vacation Bible School, worked in the Sunday School, served as Assistant for Women's Day Chairperson, sang in the Women's Sanctuary and Mass Choirs, she was a member of the Inspirational Voices of Christ, member of the Flower Circle, member of the Administrative Board, Chairperson of Special Concerns, Chairperson on Status of Women. She was a marriage coordinator; a member of the United Methodist Women, served in the Soup Kitchen, member of the Council on Ministries, served in the Nutritional Program and was a Liturgist for the church. She served on the Pastor Parrish Relations Committee and was a member of the Communion Stewards. Clarence and Hattie served on the Trustee Board. She was member of Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority. Hattie attended Spalding Monroe High School in Bladenboro, North Carolina. She graduated from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina in 1956. She also received graduation credit from Morgan State University. She taught at several public schools in Baltimore, Maryland. She retired from the Baltimore City Public School System in 1997. She was married to Clarence Jones, Sr. for fifty-nine years and from this union three children were born: Sharon Dickens, Dumont Jones and Clarence Jones, Jr. Sharon and Dumont preceded her in death and also a granddaughter Shakissha Thomas. She loved to watch various sports on TV and was an avid basketball fan of the Spurs and Wizards. Hattie and Clarence loved to travelto many different places. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Clarence E. Jones,Sr.; son, Clarence Jones, Jr.; four grandchildren, William Beard, Marie Jones, Dumont Jones, Jr. and Frederico Dickens (Janika); five great-grandchildren,Skylar, Ja'miyah Dickens, RJ and Isiah-Samir and Dominique Beard; two sisters, Mable Musgrove (Haywood) of Baltimore and Leona Bullock (Ponce) of Mitchellville, Maryland; sister-in-law, Betty Horne of Baltimore; a niece,Lena Bernadette Horne; aunt, Margaret Davis of Bladenboro, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
