Hattie Clark

Hattie Verice Clark, the second eldest daughter of the late William Butler and Hattie Mae Butler Blount, was born on July 8, 1928 in Suffolk, VA.She received her education in the public school system of Suffolk, VA. She was baptized at an early age and received Christ as her Lord and Savior and attended the Bethlehem Christian Church in Suffolk, VA. Reesie, as she was fondly called by her family and friends, met and married, Melvin Clark, who was a member of the United States Navy. They later divorced and she relocated to New York City, NY. After spending a few years there, Reesie decided to move to Baltimore, MD to be close to her sister, Mary and her family. She soon joined Senior Choir #2 and then the Southern Baptist Church Mass Choir. She loved singing on the choir for the church anniversaries, ushers anniversaries, choir anniversaries and Men & Women’s Day. She would spend days talking about how good the choir sang for each event and just about each Sunday, she would be singing. She sang until her health prevented her fro, participating.She was employed at Fort George Meade with the National Security Agency and retired after over thirty years of federal government service. She was a very pound and dedicated employee and continuously spoke fondly about her co-workers long after retirement.Reesie was a high strung, very spirited and fashionable lady. She loved making people laugh. She loved making people laugh. She loved taking trips to her hometown of Suffolk, VA, to visit her family. She really loved to cook, She would always say, “we Virginia women can burn”. Her presence will be sorely missed.On Monday, December 22, 2008, our Lord and Savior was merciful and gave her an early Christmas gift, He gently took her home to be at rest. To God Be The Glory! She leaves to cherish her memory; three sisters; Mary Harville, of Baltimore, MD. Catherine Thorne and Jean Palmer of Suffolk, VA; one brother-in-law, Richard Thorne of Suffolk, VA; a loving and devoted niece, Vickie L.Dunsen of Baltimore, MD; a long time friend, Charles Toon; other nieces, nephews, relatives, and many other loving family and friends.
