Harvey Junior Jones

Harvey Junior Jones peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday,February 25,2009,after a brief illness with cancer. He was born on June 10, 1944,to the late Sultana and Chester Lee Jones,of Richmond,Virginia. He was preceded in death by his sister,Shirley Goodman.Harvey gave his life to the Lord at an early age. He later affiliated himself with Second Baptist Church of the West End,Richmond.Though Harvey wasn't an avid "church goer",he always listened to "spirituals" in his garage while working on a project,sippin on a cold one,or cutting his beloved grass.Dearly referred to as "The Mayor" of the neighborhood,Harvey made it his business to lend a helping hand to all who needed one. He was a great advice giver,as well as a true giver of himself and his time. Harvey always greeted everyone with a smile and somewhere in between,something to "chuckle" about.After graduating from Armstrong High School in 1963,young Harvey entered into the Armed Forces in 1965. In addition to serving two tours in Vietnam and earning"The National Defense Service Medal","The Good Conduct Medal","The Vietnam Service Medal"and "The Vietnam Campaign Medal w/DVC". Harvey was affiliated with the American Legion. Shirtly afterwards,Harvey went to work on the Railway System. Thereafter,Harvey gained employment with Philip Morris USA in 1969,where he retired in 1998 as a fixer,after almost 30 years of service.Harvey never met a stranger. He was good natured and enjoyed the outdoors. Even the wildlife enjoyed Harvey. Good with his hands,Harvey dabbled in art and horticulture. He had one of the best manicured lawns in the neighborhood. Harvey took pride in his family,his work and in all of his endeavors. He enjoyed good music,good friends,good food,and good times. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.He leaves to cherish his memory,his loving wife of 37 years,Joyce;two devoted children,Kimberly R. Jones and Sean B. Jones, and two beautiful grandchildren,Mylahn Parsons and DonCavelle Jones.He is also survived by one sibling,Rogers(Kaye)Lee Jones;three brothers-in-law,William Goodman,Leroy(Rhonda)Slade of Atlanta,Georgia,and Wendell Slade of Chicago,Illinos;six nephews,Todd Goodman,Corey and Eric Jones,Darius and Jarrett Slade,Adam Slade;two cousins,Joan Griffin of Baltimore,Maryland and Pam Ford;a host of extended family members and friends.
