Harry James Rock,Sr.

Obituary Harry James Rock, Sr., a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2014. He was born on February 13, 1941 to the late Pitman C. Rock and Casandra Rock-Carter in Balty, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pitman Rock and Casandra Rock-Carter; two sisters, Vera Lisha Christian and Susie Lewis; four brothers, P.C. Rock, Sr., Chastine Rock, Joseph L. E. Rock, and Bernard Rock. He received his education in the Caroline County Public School System, in Balty, VA. He accepted Christ at an early age at St. John Baptist Church, Woodford, VA. He enlisted into the United States Army in February 1960 and was honorably discharged April 1962. After returning home from the Army, Harry worked at various places of employment, Keller Industries in Milford, VA; KSH and FMC Corporation in Fredericksburg, VA; Reagan National Airport formerly known as National Airport, Washington, DC and he later retired from the Quantico Marines Corps Base, Quantico, VA. He was also a lifetime member of Welcome Masonic Lodge #125 of Bowling Green, VA and American Legion Post #314 of Aylett, VA. Harry had an infectious smile, happy disposition and never complained. He was one who never judged you even though he may have thought you were wrong. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed until his health began to fail. He was known to be a man of many talents whether it was some type of construction project or just working around the yard. He spent a lot of his free time especially on weekends taking his 2-3 hour shopping tour of the local Wal-Mart and Lowe’s stores. Harry watched all sports and he truly enjoyed bragging about his favorite football team, the Pittsburg Steelers. He was a devoted father, a job from which he never retired. He loved his family and was our hero and protector who brought wisdom and humor to any situation. He enjoyed life and always left you laughing or with a smile on your face. He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Harry Jr. (Tonia), Reuben (Sherry) of Ruther Glen, VA; a daughter, Cristina Fox (Anthony) of Glen Allen, VA, seven grandchildren; two sisters, Lucy Hayes and Jeanetta Lee; one brother, Cleveland Rock (Mary); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, a devoted friend, Lisa Roberts.
