Harry Purnell Matthews

Harry Purnell Matthews was born to the late Ernest Madison and Dorothy Bell Matthews. Born on June 08, 1947. He transitioned from this life on Sunday, January 21, 2018 after a lengthy stay at the Future Care Courtland Facility in Milford Mill, Maryland. Harry was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, after graduating, soon after he sought employment, because he was not afraid of hard work, so he was up for the challenge. Harry started working at the Crown Gas station on Garrison and Reisterstown Road. He was such a reliable, and diligent worker, and the owner saw these attributes in him, and a few years later he helped Harry to obtain his very own gas station, not as a worker, but as the owner of the land marked Crown Gas Station on the Corner of Winston, and York Road. Harry was a very kind hearted and generous person, he believed in paying it forward, he gave back to the community, he helped and hired family members, and close friends, affording them job opportunities, they would have never received otherwise. When Harry was not at work just chilling around town, he was a very snazzy, and up to date man in his dress attire, with a debonair manner, he rose to the occasion on any social function he attended, and when around the house just relaxing he enjoyed oldies but goodies (back in the day music). Harry had various interest, he was also an avid collector of antiques, and old rare coins, and a serious fan of the Baltimore Colts, until they moved away, and then he became a fan of the Baltimore Ravens football team. He was a big sports fan of boxing and baseball too. You guessed it, He was an all-around sports man. Harry was a man of few words, but you could get him to talking when you asked him about his baby girl Tracie, who he fondly called "Joe", than years later he had another girl, his second daughter Kendra, so he shared his love, because he was a man devoted to his girls, he then had yet another daughter Alicia, So girls ruled his world, but that wasn't fair, he needed someone on his side, so he tried again, and finally had a boy, his namesake Harry Jr. That made a complete family for him. Harry leaves to cherish in his memory his Four (4) children Tracie, Kendra, Alicia, and Harry Jr. Six (6) grandchildren Courtney, Kellie, Jamaari, Kameron, Jayden, and Da'Lynn. Five (5) siblings Mary Louise, Janet, William, (Audra) David, and Steve, and other host of family and friends and Four (4) siblings who preceded him in death: Ernest Jr., Bernice, Dorothy (affectionally known as Kookie). And Daisy. To our love one: Harry Purnell Matthews, REST IN PEACE.
