Harry F. Marine

Harry F. Marine, son of the late Earl Cooper and Dorthea Marine Bond, nurtured by the late Charles Bond, was born on March 12, 1939. He went home to glory on July 1, 2012 at the Veterans Hospice (Loch Raven). Fondly called “Jake”, he received his education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. At the age seventeen he entered the United States Army serving from 1956 until 1964. While in the army he developed a skill for truck driving and hobby of playing drums and singing. He landed his first job at a gas station and there he learned everything about vehicles, road maps and long distance driving. Jake’s passion for driving led him to become a cab driver, and soon after acquiring ownership of two cabs. He even drove school buses full of kids. He also worked along with family members at a downtown market where they sold various merchandise from their stall. During this time in his life he had an idea of forming his own singing group. They were called “Speedo and the Ambassadors”. Making appearances around Baltimore City, Jake became known for his James Brown Impersonation (cape included) which always brought the crowd to their feet. He worked for Mobile Microfilming Corporation for fifteen years making various deliveries throughout Baltimore, Florida and Omaha, Nebraska. Jake also worked part-time for B.T. Smith Medical Equipment. In 1982, Jake started Harry’s Paint and Cleaning Service. Clients included various business owners and prominent Baltimore personalities’ homes. Clients loved his work and honesty. Jake made numerous friends throughout his life, especially new friends since he had become a “Hack” at Stop, Shop & Save (Cold Spring). He really loved helping people and talking about the Lord to them. He loved family gatherings, cats, children, cooking and being a well-dressed man when expected to. Deacon Marine has been a faithful member of Second Antioch. He would do whatever needed to be done for anyone who needed him. He was a faithful servant to Pastor Emeritus Smith and continued to remain faithful to Pastor Morrison. He loved singing on the choir and was very involved in creating the Male Chorus. He was ordained Deacon under Pastor Emeritus Smith on June 14, 2002. He joined the Discipleship Ministry in 2009 under the facilitation of Pastor Morrison. After going to a concert, Deacon Marine joined the Maryland Baptist Convention Choir in February 2000. He was given an award for his supportive commitment and outstanding performance. On April 22, 2012, the annual concert was held; it was dedicated to Deacon Marine, and he was able to attend. Jake has always been bold in acquiring what he wants, so one beautiful day in 1978 he approached a very shy young lady while she was working at a local Rite-Aid. In a very strong voice he told her “You Gonna Marry Me, Woman, And Give Me Two Sons”. After a few months of adventurous courtship, Jake and Nita were united in marriage at the First Church of Christ (Denmore Avenue) on January 12, 1979. God soon blessed them with two sons, Joseph and Jonathan. The love which God predestined blossomed into thirty-two years together as one. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Anita (whom he adored); sons, Joseph (Nikki), Jonathan, Harry Jr. and Bryan (who preceded him in death in 2008); daughters, Andrea (Thomas), Harreia (Umoja) and Harrileshia (Steve); sisters, Peggy Bowman, Alester Hebron, Victoria Maynard (Floyd), Barbara and Earlene Cooper; brothers, Gerald Bond (Rosetta) and Tyrone Bond (Debbie); aunts, Audrey Warlaw, Martha Marine, Esaw Snipes and Norma Mims; uncle, Rev. Joseph Braxton; fourteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, ten godchildren, many daycare children who fondly called him ‘Daddy Jake”; and a multitude of other relatives and friends.
