Gwendolyn Alexander

Gwendolyn Alexander, daughter of the late William Brown and Nellie Mae Brown, was born on January 2, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on January 21, 2010 after a lengthy illness.She attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore and later received a GED through the Baltimore City Public School System. At the age of eighteen, she became a certified child care professional receiving a Certificate of Early Child Care Development from Martin Luther King Parent & Child Center. Upon completion of her certification, she became a full-time employee at New Era Child Care Center for a couple years, interrupted only by her own desire to raise her family. She became a full-time home maker and started her own child care service providing, a much needed service in the community.She married Randy Arnold Alexander, and out of this union they raised three children, Terrance D. Alexander, Octavia K. Guthrie, and Michael J. Ellerbee.Gwendolyn made numerous friends wherever she went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her. She was always a true friend and a devoted family woman. Gwendolyn had an uncanny love for children, and was always the first person to step in when a child was in need.In spite of her health problems, Gwen tried to remain optimistic about her health and enjoyed spending time with family and close friends.She leaves her precious memories to be shared by her husband, Randy A. Alexander; her sons, Terrance Alexander and Michael Ellerbee; her daughter, Octavia K. Guthrie; uncle, Authur Patterson; sisters, Linda Brown-Robinson, Michelle Brown, Bernadette Brown-Bush, Doreen Brown, and her late eldest Marguerite Johnson; brothers, William Brown Jr., William To. Brown Jr., Anthony Brown, and Lenzel Brown; brother-in-law, Robert Bush; sister-in-law, Vernetta Brown; son-in-law, Elgin Alexander Guthrie; daughter-in-law, Sharon Alexander; granddaughters, Sara Alexander, Myah Alexander, Kayla Alexander, Destiny Hinnant, Ziya Guthrie, and Ce'Nel Guthrie; grandsons, Elgin Alexander Guthrie Jr. and Myles Alexander; five nieces and three special nieces, Tisha Trayham, Chanell Praileau, and Schneika Brown; six nephews and two special nephews, Tony Brown and Keontay Brown; eight great nieces; five great nephew and one special nephew, Messiah Collic, and a host of other relatives and friends.
