Gregory J. Bean

GREGORY JOSEPH BEAN, son of the late Dorothy and William Bean, Sr., was born March 3, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland. God affectionately called Gregory home August 27, 2024 From a former marriage, Greg had one son, Gregory Bean, Jr. Greg was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. He graduated from Samuel Gompers High School. Greg began working at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1966, which was his only place of employment. He began as a Patient Escort, transporting patients to their various appointments throughout the hospital. Through the years, he worked hard and rose to the position of Manager of Escort Services. Greg was a very dedicated employee, he walked 1.8 miles to and from work every day. Many of his siblings and nieces followed him and accepted positions within the Hopkins Health System. In 2008, Greg retired from Johns Hopkins Hospital after 42 years of employment. Greg grew up with two older brothers and six younger sisters. There were many good times shared at our home on Oak Hill Avenue. Greg loved his family but had a special bond with his father. They both had a love for dogs and playing the lottery. They would also go to the racetracks, lose money betting on the wrong horse, blame each other, and then make plans to go back. Greg met his best friend, Roger Hunter at Johns Hopkins. They maintained a friendship that lasted well over fifty years. Greg loved hanging out with Roger and his other buddies. He would invite the guys over to eat crabs, drink beer, listen to music, and talk a lot of trash. He loved baseball and cheering for his favorite football team – The Baltimore Ravens. Greg was the carefree brother. He thought of himself as a “Ladies Man.” He nicknamed himself “the Bean” and “the Lover.” Greg loved to dance. He had no shame in being the first one on the dance floor but had no rhythm. It was embarrassing to watch, but so much fun. We will miss him. Proceeding Gregory in death: Parents - Dorothy and William Bean Sr., Brothers – James (Dee Dee) and William, Jr. (Popie), and Sister - Patricia Jones. Greg leaves to cherish his memory: Son – Gregory Bean, Jr., Sisters – Cynthia Carter, Denise Bean, Karen Bean Baxter, Sharon Bean, Cheryl Bean and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and a host of friends.
