Gracy L. Tucker

Gracy Lucille Tucker, daughter of the late Roger Johnson and the late Mary Cabiness Johnson was born on June 6, 1930 in Brunswick County, Virginia. She departed this life on February 23, 2020. Gracy was baptized at an early age at Little Zion R.Z.U.A. in Alberta, Va. She completed her education at St. Paul High School in Lawrenceville, Va. She met and then married her one true love Junius Lee Tucker on April 8, 1949 and they moved to Baltimore, Maryland that same year. They had 5 children, their first children Ann Tucker passed away after a few days of life. She joined Southern Baptist Church on Preston and Bond Street in 1949 under the leadership of the late Rev. James R. Grant. She sung on the Senior Choir #1, Early Morning Choir and Southern Mass Choir. She always kept her children and grandchildren engaged in different church activities and instilled the importance for each of them to build their own personal relationship with God. Gracy worked as a seamstress at Katzenberg until 1978. When she retired, she cared for her grandchildren that were coming along. She still used her skills as a seamstress to make dresses and skirts for her daughter, grandchildren and others. She was also a Daycare Mom for many years, so her home was always filled with sounds of children laughing and playing. As the great-grandchildren came along, she was affectionately called "Lucy" which was short for her middle name. Lucy loved her family and took care of them very well. She would rise every morning by 4:30 am to make breakfast and lunch for her husband, children and grandchildren. Sundays, anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays were big for her. The family would come over to eat, laugh and reminisce about the "good-ole' days". Gracy was an intelligent, sweet loving woman of God. She had a heart of gold and people were drawn to her gentle spirit. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend there ever was and this was her earthly ministry and now her legacy. Gracy was preceded in death by both of her parents, Mary and Roger Johnson; her husband Junius Lee Tucker, her daughter Ann Tucker; two sons Junius "Bucky" Tucker, Larry Tucker Sr., and one great grandson Kishawn Muse; two sisters Willie Gayle and Bertha Jones; seven brothers Roosevelt Johnson, George Johnson, Burnell Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Clarence Lee Johnson, William Johnson and Roger Johnson. Gracy leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughters, Sharon Tucker and Tricia Gillis; one sister Gloria Ragsdale; nine grandchildren Tyreese Pate (Dwayne), Patrice Tucker (Byron), Lesslie Tucker, Shaquetta J. Blackmon (Audrick Sr.), Larry Tucker Jr., Gerald Fillis Jr. (Charlissa), Aaron Gillis Sr. (Charlene), Patricia Tucker and Ciera Tucker; sixteen great-grandchildren Desvan Moody, Deverin Pate, Dytoine Stinson, Sabriaya M.J. Shipley, Denise Pate, Shanika Brown, Toni Brown, Anthony Battle, Brionna Gillis, Aaron Gillis Jr., India Hurley, Allen Gillis, Izeaya Bowman, Micah Dunson, Jamion Fitz, and Audrick Blackmon Jr.; three great-great grandchildren McKenzie Pate, Desius Stinson and Zayda Pate; four sisters-in-law Doris Johnson, Mabel JOhnson, Sadie Rice and Pecolia Johnson; three brothers-in-law Andrew Ragsdale, Henry Rice and Thomas Foston; two special friends Gladys Lawson and Mariam Hairston; seven spiritual children Rosalind Ambrose, Peggy Kellam, Darlene Roscoe, Stasia Henry, LaVerne Brown, Jasmine Dunson, and Kianah Bryant and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
