Grace M. Jones

Strength and honor were her clothing; she looketh well to the ways of her household. Proverbs 31:25 Little did we know that evening what sorrow that Sunday would bring. She said that morning she was going home and just before sunset she gained her wings. In the evening of Sunday, April 30, 2023 getting that phone call was the hardest call for a daughter to get. My heart is deeply saddened by the passing of my loving and devoted mom. Grace lived a joyous life. She was loving, independent, crafty, and generous. Today we celebrate Grace and thank God for the fabulous life of my mother, our grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, aunt, relative and friend. Grace M. Jones, affectionately known as Dennie to many who knew and loved her, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the age of 88. Grace was born November 14, 1934 in Richmond, Virginia’s Historic Fulton. She was the fifth of six children born to the late Grace and Isiah Brown, Sr. Grace was also preceded in death by her four sisters Mary C. Terry, Martha B. Williams, Ruby V. Gray, and Geraldine Brown; brother Isiah Brown, Jr and great-grandson in-law Michael A. Cole, Jr. Grace was educated in the Richmond Public School system and graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in 1953. She confessed her faith in Christ at the age of twelve and joined Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church where she was a member until her death. Grace was a faithful, dedicated, and supportive member of the Joseph Smith Memorial Usher Board where she diligently served as treasurer, honorary member of the Inspirational Choir, received plaques of appreciation, recognition, acknowledgment for her devoted services, love and support from the Inspirational Choir, Seniors of Zion, Hospitality Ministry and for assisting the Men’s Club. Grace loved to work with the Seniors of Zion Ministry where she prepared and served wholesome, healthy meals to Rising Mount Zion’s senior citizens and their guests. Grace would proudly let you know that she was the person in charge of Nutrition. She was a master chef and great with meal planning. Grace especially enjoyed church activities, allowing her to fellowship with friends and other church family, filling the void for her family that she missed who had preceded her in death. Grace’s hobbies were sewing, cooking, and making floral arrangements. Everyone loved what came out of Grace’s Kitchen, a name given to her by her daughter for a home business if she was to ever have one. She could have also opened Grace’s Floral Designs but chose to share her talents with others just for the love of it. Grace was also a dedicated member of the Red Hat Society where she could be seen wearing a purple suit and Red Hat at local meetings. Grace worked at Larus Brothers where she served as Secretary of the Union for twelve years. She was also employed by Philip Morris Inc. as an Inspector, where she retired in 1994 after 30 years of dedicated service. Grace married her High School sweetheart, Raymond Nash Jones in 1953. This union was blessed with one daughter, Corliss Freda. Grace will forever be remembered as a woman who enjoyed life, loved her family and friends dearly. She doted on her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren regularly. We are certain that Heaven’s gates were opened widely to reunite Grace M. Jones with her parents, siblings and friends who preceded her in death. Grace leaves behind a loving and devoted family. Cherishing her memories are her beloved and devoted daughter, Corliss Freda Morton Johnson (Matthew); grandchildren, Carroll Morton, Jr. and Cherjuana Morton; great-grandchildren, Chequan Jones (Nicole), Brittany Jones-Cole, Christopher Jones, Justin Jones, Chynna Mallory, Quichaun Mallory, Mykah Morton and Jaylah Morton; great great-grandchildren, A’aliyah Jones, Micaelah Cole, Mikenzie Cole, Brice Jones, Justin Jones II, Khy’Son Mallory and Amazi Jones; devoted nieces, Peggy Brown, Deborah Gray, Pamela Robinson, Sylvia Wade (Eric); nephews, Reginald Gray Jr., Demetro Smith and Alonzo Brown; great nieces and nephews; relative: sister-in-law Sylvia Brown; devoted aunt, Loretta Brown; a host of cousins relatives and friends. k Grace was an inspiration, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, and great great-grandmother. We love you and will continue to cherish you in our hearts!
