Grace Elizabeth Alexander

Legacy of Life Sunday, October 30, 2022, our beloved Grace Elizabeth Alexander moved from our physical presence into Jehovah’s eternal peace. Her life began December 16, 1936, to proud parents Joseph and Lucille Wyatt, in Richmond, Virginia. Grace grew up in Richmond and graduated from Maggie Walker High School. She married the love of her life, Walter James Alexander on July 20, 1954. Their union was blessed with 10 children who they lovingly reared together for 25 years. At the age of 43, Grace was widowed. She continued rearing her children, by herself, earning the name “Amazing Grace” as — our courageous mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. Grace is well known for her bubbly personality and her infectious smile. She dedicated the majority of her life as a faithful servant to Jehovah. Her love for Jehovah was very strong. She enjoyed field service until she could no longer physically participate. Daily, Grace spread the word. Prayer was an important function in her household. She was progressive and respected all of her children’s religious beliefs. An amazing mother, she instilled values of honesty, responsibility, and patience in her children. She encouraged each of them to strive for a good future with GOD in their life. She was a strong believer of unity amongst her children. Before each meeting, they reviewed Watch Tower issues and she had all 8 of the smaller children sit in the front at Kingdom Hall to pay close attention to the teachings. By preparing her children for weekly meetings, she prepared them for her last words, “You all are grown and have a life of your own, now I must move on.” For a number of years, Amazing Grace was employed as a healthcare manager. She was also an accomplished seamstress. When her children were small, she made their clothes and did alterations for neighbors and friends. She also loved to cook. She made the best biscuits and chicken salad. As soon as anyone stepped through the door, she offered them a meal. Before they left, she always said, “I have something for you. Get that Watch Tower on your way out.” Listening to Jehovah’s Witness music was a favorite past-time. But hosting family gatherings and cookouts also brought her tremendous joy. She really enjoyed learning line dances from her children and grands. She’d lift that one shoulder and “slide to the left, then slide to the right” with her cane in hand. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband. Amazing Grace leaves cherished memories to her children, Linda Wyatt, Brenda Powell, Diane (Robert) Walker, Walter Alexander Jr., Elmango Alexander, Deborah Walker, Freda Barksdale, Eric (Samantha) Alexander, Basilo Alexander, and Sherrie (Freddie) Robinson; grandchildren, Shiris, Brandy, Alisha, Myra, Anika, Crystal, Elmango Jr., Oscar, Sheena, Shanell, Earnest, Rashid, Asia, Eric, Terrence, Eric Jr., Tyree, Tyrell, Brianna, Tarrell; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins; bonus-sons, Michael Cooper and Michael Royster; sister, Joanne Christian; brother, Joseph (Michelle) Wyatt; Kingdom Hall Family and friends. To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven. —Ecclesiastes 3:1—
