Gloria Marion Williams

Gloria Marion Williams was born May 10,1923 to the late Horace and Mary E. Palmer Daughtrey in Norfolk County,Virginia. She was the wife of the late Alonzo Williams,Jr. the mother to five biological children and a niece and nephew. She was preceded in death by her daughter Evelyn Ward,devoted nephew Linwood Staten and grandson Wayne Tetterton. She became a member of St. Paul's Baptist Church and attended until she developed dementia. She departed this world February 23,2011. Gloria leaves her family with many happy and loving memories. Memories of how she loved life and worked very hard to make everyone who crossed her path feel as though they were the only person"so beautiful","so smart"or "so nice". Every face was beautiful to her and worthy of being told so. She loved music and dancing and even in her last days she would jump at the sound of any lively music. During her few days in the infirmary to recover from a broken hip or days spent at a senior day care center,she would often lead the whole facility into dancing. This would be the highlight of the center for weeks because it made everyone feel so alive. Wherever Gloria went,it seemed she knew somebody or somebody knew her,but no matter how she would be introduced,she would always end up being called Grandmom(by children)or Mom..to which she always answered. Gloria worked as a caregiver most of her life as either a Nurses Aide or a Nanny. In her last half of life she began to make arts and crafts...dolls,jewelry,pillows and quilts and traveled with her daughter and son-in-law to trade shows all over the country. Her dolls were a big hit(never lasted) and so was she. People looked for her year after year at major craft shows to have her assistance in picking out the best jewelry for their personality. But,most of them came for a hug and some love she always so willingly gave to people from all walks of life. Gloria leaves her two loving daughters,Gloria Lovett(son-in-law Ronald),Teresa Howard(devoted son-in-law Joel),two sons Leon Daughtrey,Ronnie Williams(daughter-in-law Debra),a host of grandchildren,a sister Helen Hawkins and many other family and friends. She developed a special bond with her great grandson,McQual Cobbs,who spent his summers with her,being her special "buddy". Gloria "Mom" Williams loved her family dearly and deeply and will surely be missed.
