Gloria Mae Redd

GLORIA MAE REDD was born on October 10, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. Gloria endured a slow decline in health before falling asleep in death on August 28, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Daisy Hazel Lockley and Homer Blassor Kelson. She is one of twelve sibling born to Daisy. Gloria was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. After that, she always looked for opportunities to deepen her knowledge of gardening, pottery making, cooking, home interior decorating and much more. She could always be found at one of her siblings' homes redecorating and giving ideas. In fact, you could count on something in your house being rearranged when she came over. Some of her beautiful handmade pottery still exists today in the home of one of her sisters. Gloria's employment history included companies like Bendix Corporation, Westinghouse, and the United States Postal Service. Her work ethic was one of reliability, productivity, cooperation and professionalism. Unlike this current generation, she "did not eat the bread of laziness". If one job folded, she soon was employed elsewhere and was eager to learn her next assignment. In 1976, Gloria married the late Earnest Calloway Redd. They were married for nearly 40 years and were a power couple! They were trailblazers for taking care of themselves, their family, and their home. Besides that, name one couple who could dress more stylish! They both had quick wit and could make you laugh. Even up until Earnest's decline in health, Gloria was a devoted wife, to the best of her health at that time. Her home was the hub for just about every family gathering, no matter the occasion. You knew you were in for a treat when dinner was at her house. Her fridge was always stocked and prepared to entertain guests. She was beyond hospitable and an amazing cook. During her life, she made a beautiful name for herself with family, friends, and neighbors. Because she was the "big sister", she earned the right to boss her younger siblings around; and that was okay because she had a proven track record of making good decisions - whether it was home improvement, self-improvement, or financial literacy. If she spoke, you listened. She embodied so many of her mother's qualities. Although Gloria had no biological children, many of her nieces and nephews viewed her as a second mother. They often sought her advice and loved being at her home. Her home was a safe haven - just to get away and gain some peace. Although we are touched by the "sting of death", we are grateful for the woman she was and the example she left for us to imitate. We won't let death win because we choose to reflect on her outstanding qualities and strive to practice them in our lives. She leaves to celebrate and honor her life: seven remaining siblings, Godfrey, Eleanor, James, Alice, Roxanne, Hazel, and Carl (four siblings preceded her in death, Doris, Theodore, Herman, and Joyce); a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
