Gloria Jean King

We the family, pause with saddened hearts to mourn the loss of our beloved Gloria Jean King. She was called to be with our heavenly father on June 18, 2016. She was born on September 15, 1939 in Halifax, North Carolina to the late Richmond C. and Theora H. Crowell. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Celeste Mays and Wilma McLendon, three brothers, Calvin, Richmond and Wilson Crowell. She was educated in the Halifax County School System. Gloria joined Allen Grove Baptist Church in Halifax at an early age. Gloria was joined in marriage to the late Joe Nathan Edmonds and from this union were two children: Julia LaRosa Edmonds (Brown) and JoeAnn Edmonds, who preceded her in death in 1985. In 1983, she remarried the late Charles T. King, Jr. with whom she shared a special bond. Soon after moving to Richmond, she became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was a trailblazer with 48 years of service. There she dutifully served as a member of the Royal Ushers Ministry, as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Advisor, and her passion, Kitchen Coordinator. Gloria was employed with Philip Morris USA and retired after 25 years of service. Catering was her passion for she loved to cook. She loved her church, her family and most of all she loved the Lord. Gloria leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Julia Edmonds Brown; granddaughter, Jeanell Andrea Brown; devoted companion, James Turner; loving nephew, George C. Jones (Nicole); four stepsons, Charles, III, Nathaniel, Darrel and Greg; two sisters, Dorothy Crowell and Rev. Ruth Crowell; brother, James Crowell, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of devoted friends especially Marva Dabney. “NO COMPLAINING” Don’t spend too much time mourning Don’t shed tears or be sad, I left to be with Jesus And that should make you glad. Don’t waste your hours in grieving, No need to feel distress, I’m tired of life’s frustrations So I had to get some rest, Don’t worry yourself with questions, Or try to reason why life here For me has ended, It came my time to rest, Don’t lose the love I gave you, Feed it with your care, grow it with devotion And spread it everywhere. Don’t fret because my leaving Came in such a way, we’ll have another meeting in God’s Eternal way….
