Gertrude Scott

Mother Gertrude Scott was born January 25, 1916 in Roxboro, North Carolina. She was the fourth child of loving parents Horace and Hattie Holloway. Her childhood education was received in the public school system in Roxboro, North Carolina.As an adult she met and married Sidney T. Scott and from this union, one child, Evelyn (Eve) was born. He departed this life November 1984.Mother Scott was a lifetime member of Bethel Holy Tabernacle, U.H.C.A. under the pastorate of Elder Charles Anderson. She was a faithful member at Bethel. Her years of dedicated service included teaching Sunday school, singing in the Senior Choir and occasionally playing the piano during midweek services. Her commitment extended beyond the walls of Bethel to the subdistrict where she was also an active member.When her tenure at Bethel had ended, she was led to join East Baltimore Deliverance Church. The title of Church Mother was bestowed upon her and she cherished that position. In addition to her work at her local assembly, for many years she reached our to others while serving as Counselor at the CBN 700 Club Satellite in Baltimore. In 1978 received an award for her service.In her early years, she thoroughly enjoyed designing and sewing beautiful clothes as well as canning fruits and vegetables. She shared both her hobbies with her dear friend the late Sister Ida McCrea. For many years, she was employed by Hochshild Kohn Department Store and was blessed to retire in 1975.In her earlier years, she thoroughly enjoyed designing and sewing beautiful clothes and canning fruits and vegetables. In her later years she enjoyed sitting in her favorite rocking chair singing the songs of Zion.Mother Scott’s bright spirit was escorted into Heaven’s gates on Saturday, November 30, 2002.She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Evelyn (Eve) and one son-in-law, Elder Walter Briggs- “Baby and My Walte”, as she affectionately called them, of Owings Mills, Md.; two sisters, Quetta Morton and Gwendolyn Brown; one brother, Minister Wryant Holloway; two sisters-in-law, Nannie Bea Faulkner and Vernice Morman; a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends who loved her and will miss her.
